Soccer a family affair for Robles

Andrew Robles

For "Sueño MLS: Chivas USA Wants You!" finalist Andrew Robles, success in professional soccer is a family tradition. Robles, a 16-year-old midfielder out of Lynwood, Calif., is the younger brother of Chivas USA defender Eder Robles.

"There is a lot of pressure," said the younger Robles, who admits it can be hard to follow in his brother's footsteps. "My brother set a high bar and I'm trying to pass it."

The younger Robles has received sound advice from his older brother, and he has every intention of following it.

"My brother told me to play my game, listen to the coaches, keep it simple, and don't be a ball hog," said Robles. "Besides that, I just want to make sure I remember to eat."

While this new found attention can be a bit overwhelming for the teenager, Robles is only focused on Saturday's "Final 24" round. As a member of his high school's track team, he has been using his track practices not only for running conditioning, but also for ball training.

"There is a little indoor arena on the course I run for track," said Robles. "My friends and I stop there and do a little ball work on the way."

Robles, along with the other dreamers who make up the "Final 24," are all looking forward to playing against the Chivas USA U-19 team. Having these trials in the world-class soccer stadium of The Home Depot Center will allow for the dreamers to not only showcase their talents, but also to have the experience of doing so in a professional venue.

"I've practiced on the other fields at The Home Depot Center, but I've never been on the stadium field," said Robles. "I'm looking forward to it; it should be a great game."

The dream lives on this weekend Saturday, March 3rd as the "Final 24" go up against the Chivas USA U-19 team. Watch all the action on Univision's Republica Deportiva Sunday, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m.-2 p.m. PT) and also don't forget to visit www.suenomls.com as Andrew Robles shares his thoughts leading up to the trials with his exclusive journal entries.
