Sevilla aims to take down leader Real

SEVILLE - Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano has called on his side to eradicate the defensive errors that have blighted their progress this season.

The Rojiblancos suffered their fifth league defeat of the season on Wednesday when they were beaten 4-3 by Atletico Madrid in the Vicente Calderon.

That loss left them languishing in 11th place in the Primera Liga, 13 points adrift of leaders Real Madrid who visit the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday.

"We have a lot of important games coming up and we need to stop making mistakes and tighten up at the back if we are to start getting results," Fabiano told the club's official website, www.sevillafc.es.

Real Madrid go into the game in a rich vein of form, having thrashed Valencia 5-1 on Wednesday, but Fabiano is confident Sevilla can get a result.

"In the big games we are very good and get results. It will be difficult because Real Madrid are in good form, but we are strong at home and will be going for the three points," he added.

New Sevilla coach Manuel Jiminez is boosted by the return of striker Frederic Kanoute, who missed the Atletico game with a muscle strain. Defender Ivica Dragutinovic also returns after flu.

Goalkeeper Andres Palop and midfielder Jose Luis Marti have also shaken off muscle problems and should feature against the champions.

Despite hitting top form recently, Real coach Bernd Schuster has warned his players not to take Sevilla lightly.

The manner of their victory over Valencia has many believing Real are already well on their way to a second successive title.

They are currently four points clear at the top of the Primera Liga, however Schuster is urging his side not to get carried away.

"We played at a very high level against Valencia and that is why we scored so many goals. It is hard to improve on this," he told www.realmadrid.com.

"Nevertheless, we shouldn't get overexcited; it was just another game. We will have to think about our match against Sevilla because it will be complicated.

"We must still improve in order to play more often at that level. However, we passed the ball and moved better on Wednesday."

Defender Gabriel Heinze echoed Schuster's sentiments and believes that the players need to take every game seriously.

"In order to stay at the top we need to take every game seriously and some teams are harder than others. We are pleased just to be dependent on ourselves at the moment," he said.

Real captain Raul is delighted to see his team-mates playing so well and admits there is a belief in the squad that they can beat anyone they come up against.

"We played some amazing football against Valencia and if we play like that, we can go anywhere and get a result," he added.

Midfielder Arjen Robben is still out with a bicep injury, while striker Gonzalo Higuain remains on the sidelines with a thigh strain.

However, defender Pepe may return from his lengthy injury lay-off.
