Schuster says his stay is short

Schuster says he doesn't believe he has the job security that English coaches enjoy.

MADRID - Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster believes it would be "almost impossible" for him to experience the same sort of longevity in his job at the Bernabeu as some of his counterparts in England.

Schuster was speaking in response to comments made by Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic, who said he wanted to work alongside the German for "a long time, in the manner of an English coach".

However, Schuster believes the mentality towards coaches in Spain is different to that in England, and makes it highly unlikely that anyone in La Liga will match the achievements of long-serving managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

When asked on Wednesday about Mijatovic's comments, Schuster said: "That seems great to me, but we all know how the job of a coach is, and above all here in Spain. Coaches are not as respected here as they are in England, we cannot be compared with them."

"I think it would difficult to be able to coach at the same club in Spain for 12 or 20 years," added Schuster, who took charge of Real in the summer after title-winning coach Fabio Capello was fired after just one year.

"We would all like to be able to continue coaching at the same place for many years, as is it clear that nobody wants to change every two to three years, but we are in a country where that is almost impossible."
