RSL staff to challenge local futbol ligas

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake today announced that Utah's MLS side has issued a challenge to representatives of Utah's Hispanic futbol ligas for the First Annual "Plato de Campeones." The inaugural match for the "Plate of Champions" will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Utah Olympic Oval, located at 5662 S. 4800 West in Kearns, UT. Kick-off for the indoor soccer affair slated for 8:00 p.m.

Liga presidents from across the state of Utah have combined forces to put together a team to challenge the talent-laden RSL front office staff. This "winner takes all" match is certain to bring out the best of both sides, with pride and bragging rights on the line - in addition to the newly-created winner's plate that the victor will get to hold until next year's competition.

The main impetus behind the "Plato de Campeones" is for Real Salt Lake to give a hearty "THANK YOU" to all of the Utah Ligas that supported the MLS side both on and off the field during the 2007 season. The ligas are an important part of the local Hispanic culture, providing the structure that allows most of the state's Latin population to come together and participate in the sport it is most passionate about.

The ligas that will participate in the match are: Liga Latinoamérica, Liga de Futbol OCD, Liga Continental, Liga Internacional, Liga México-Utah, Liga Juvenil Hispana, Liga Unión Hispana, Liga Premier, Liga Soccer Mexico-Utah-Ogden, and Liga Score Goal Futsal. Each Liga is asked to be represented by two players consisting of a Presidents and an assistant.
