RSL in the community: Sept. 21-24

With the Real Salt Lake roster occupied by Saturday's Rocky Mountain Cup clash against the Colorado Rapids, the team's popular mascot, Leo the Lion, will lead the team's charge throughout the community across this weekend. The upcoming appearances will be highlighted by Leo's appearance in Monday's fourth annual Mascot Bowl at Lehi High School, which will feature the Lehi Little League football team taking on an All-Star Mascot team led by local celebrity coaches.

In addition to Leo, the mascot team will feature most of the area's favorite fur-covered and foam fanatics, including "Bear" of the Utah Jazz, "Grizbee" of the Utah Grizzlies, "Swoop" from the University of Utah, Brigham Young University's "Cosmo," "Chief" of the AFL's Utah Blaze, the Salt Lake Bees' "Bumble," "Rocky" from the Rocky Mountain Raceway, and Weber State University's "Waldo." Also traveling in for the contest are some of the most popular mascots from the NBA, including the famed Phoenix Suns' "Gorilla," the Seattle Sonics' "Squatch," the Sacramento Kings' "Slamson," "Blaze" from the Portland Trailblazers, and "Champ" of the Dallas Mavericks.

In addition to the game, festivities will include photo and autograph opportunities with all of the mascots, the Utah Jazz Dancers, Nashville recording artist Charley Jenkins, and celebrity Mascot coach Frank Layden. There will also be food, prizes, giveaways, contests, and many different games for the entire family, capped off by a fireworks show to end the evening.

Tickets are $3 a piece (children under two are free) and can be purchased in advance at the Lehi High School Financial Office or at the gate on the night of the event. All proceeds from the event will benefit the "Firemen and Friends for Kids" charity. RSL has donated 500 tickets to its October 6 home game against Chivas USA as well as 500 tickets to the October 15 showdown with the Houston Dynamo, all of which will be distributed at Monday's event.
