Roundup: Revolution down Bermuda

The New England Revolution started their slate of preseason matches Tuesday with a 3-1 victory against the Bermuda national team in Hamilton, Bermuda. Three other MLS teams were in action on the day, and all came out winners.


The Revs went behind just 10 minutes into the match, as Bermuda captain Keith Jennings pounded home a rebound past New England 'keeper Doug Warren. It took the MLS side until almost halftime to respond, forcing an own goal in the 45th minute after a goalmouth scramble.


In the second half, the Revolution took over, getting two goals to secure the victory.


Andy Dorman scored the Revs' second, hammering home a Wells Thompson cross in the 80th minute. Just two minutes later, trialist Jorge Ramirez notched an insurance goal for the Revolution after Willie Sims did the work, driving into the box and setting up Ramirez, who slotted home from 17 yards out.


The Revolution remain in Bermuda for the next match. They'll face the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday at the National Stadium.


In Pachuca, Mexico, the Colorado Rapids routed Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo 5-1.


Trialist Angel Sosa scored twice for the Rapids, converting a penalty kick in the 64th minute and finishing a corner kick four minutes later. Defender Mike Petke put away a corner kick, as well, scoring in the 48th minute.


The Rapids started the scoring in the 13th minute as John DiRaimondo got on the board. Panama international Roberto Brown doubled the lead in the 35th, just a minute before UAEH scored their only goal of the game.


Chivas USA got their third win in four preseason games, defeating the University of California-Riverside at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.


Trialist Edwin Borboa notched a double for the Red-and-White, scoring on a penalty kick in the 25th minute and tallying again in the 52nd. Chivas USA return to the field for a friendly against the PDL Fresno Fuego on Saturday.


In Sunrise, Fla., Toronto FC ran out 5-0 winners over SoccerMax. Edson Buddle, Jose Cancela, Abbe Ibrahim and Paulo Nagamura all opened their preseason accounts, while Hunter West scored his third of the winter.
