Revs sign Mauricio Castro of Honduras

FOXBOROUGH - The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed Honduran midfielder Mauricio Castro to a Major League Soccer contract to play for the Revs. He will occupy one of the team's eight international spots on the roster. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Castro, 26, comes to the Revolution from CD Olimpia of Honduras' La Nacional - its top division - where he played in the Lions' midfield for the last year. Prior to Olimpia, Castro was a member of Honduras' Hispano (2005-07) and Universidad (2004-05) clubs.

Castro also earned four caps with the Honduras National Team during the 2007 UNCAF Nations Cup, the biennial regional championship of the seven Central American CONCACAF countries.

"We're pleased we were able to acquire Mauricio," Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns said. "We believe his abilities complement our current roster and allows us added flexibility with the lineup this season. We're looking forward to Mauricio joining the club."

The Revolution begins the 2008 season at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium in a rematch of MLS Cup 2007. Fox Soccer Channel will televise the game nationally, and tickets to the match are available through the purchase of 2008 season tickets or special First Kick four-packs.
