Revs host Railhawks in Open Cup semis

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will face the Carolina RailHawks (USL-1) for the right to play for the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, when the teams meet on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn., at 7 p.m. The winner of game will advance to face the winner of the Seattle Sounders-FC Dallas semifinal for the championship of America's oldest cup competition in early October.


New England (12-5-6 in MLS) is making just its second-ever appearance in the semifinals, having advanced to the championship in 2001. Carolina (7-11-8 in USL-1) is playing in its first-ever U.S. Open Cup. This is the first-ever meeting betwen the two teams.


The winner of the Revs-RailHawks semifinal will travel to play for the championship of the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Should the Revs advance to the final and the Seattle Sounders (USL-1) defeat FC Dallas (MLS) in the other semifinal, the Revs would meet the Sounders at the Qwest Field in Seattle on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 10 p.m. ET. If New England and Dallas both advance, the teams would meet at FCD's Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. ET. The championship game will be televised by Fox Soccer Channel.
