Revs decline option on Abundis

The New England Revolution announced today that it will not exercise the option on forward José Manuel Abundis. Abundis, a former Mexico international, has decided to return to his native Mexico to pursue other playing opportunities.

Abundis, 33, was signed by the Revolution on Sept. 15, and appeared in two regular-season games, both starts, in 2006. He scored the game-winning goal in the Revs' 3-1 victory over Colorado on Sept. 30 at Gillette Stadium in his New England debut. Abundis also made two appearances - including one start - in the 2006 MLS Cup Playoffs.

New England finished the 2006 season with a 12-8-12 record (48 pts.), won the MLS Eastern Conference Championship over D.C. United, 1-0, advancing to play in MLS Cup 2006, where the Revs fell to Houston, 4-3, in penalty kicks.
