Revolution's Reis Nominated for ESPY Award

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. --
New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis is among the six nominees for the 2008 ESPY Award for Best MLS Player, ESPN has announced. Reis joins fellow nominees Luciano Emilio (D.C. United), Juan Pablo Angel (New York Red Bulls), David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Cuauhtemoc Blanco (Chicago Fire) and the 2007 award-winner, Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy) as finalists for the annual award. This is Reis' second ESPY nomination, as he was also a finalist for the same award in 2007.

The 16th Annual ESPY Awards will take place on Wednesday, July 16, at the new Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, where Justin Timberlake will serve as the show's host. ESPN will televise the awards show on Sunday, July 20, at 9 p.m. ET.

Fans can place their votes for Reis - as well as the nominees in all 37 award categories - at ESPYS.tv or on their mobile phones. Online voting continues through Saturday, July 12, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

In 2007, Reis continued to establish himself as arguably the premier goalkeeper in all of Major League Soccer. He posted 10 regular-season shutouts to match his career high for the third straight season and ranked second in the league in wins (14) and saves (120) while playing all 2,700 minutes in goal for the Revs.

The three-time MLS All-Star is putting up similar numbers in 2008, as Reis is tied for second in MLS in shutouts (5), third in goals against average (1.13) and second in saves (63), while he's also become MLS' all-time leader in consecutive minutes played (regular-season games only), having stood in goal for the Revs' last 7,740 minutes of game action, dating back to Sept. 2005.

Reis holds every New England career goalkeeping record, including games played in goal (138), games started in goal (137), minutes played in goal (12,377), goals against average (1.26), wins (59), saves (548), shutouts (38) and save percentage (.727).

Also a member of the U.S. National Team, Reis has earned a 1-0-1 record with one shutout in two appearances.

Reis and the MLS-leading Revolution (9-4-3, 30 pts.) will return to action on Friday, July 4, when the team will visit David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center at 10:30 p.m. ET. TV38 will televise the game live, while Cox 3 in Rhode Island will simulcast TV38's broadcast. The WEEI Radio Network will also carry the game.
