Revolution midfielder Dempsey suspended for two games and fined

The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended New England Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey for two games and fined him $750 for violent conduct in the Revolution's 2-1 win versus the Chicago Fire on Saturday, July 8.


Dempsey's suspension and fine were imposed for violent conduct against Chicago Fire defender Gonzalo Segares in the 31st minute of the game at TOYOTA PARK on July 8. Dempsey's suspension is scheduled to be served over the next two games. The Revolution face Real Salt Lake at home on Friday, July 13 and travel to face the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, July 22.


Under the terms of the CBA agreement, the Players Union may submit an appeal to the Commissioner for any discipline imposed as a result of an on-field incident resulting in a fine $750 or higher and/or a suspension of two games or more. Upon receipt of the appeal, the Commissioner will designate a time and a place for a hearing to be held as soon as practicable following receipt by the League of the Union's notice of appeal. A suspension shall not be postponed pending appeal.
