FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Forward Taylor Twellman earned the 2007 New England Revolution Team MVP Award, as announced by the team in a pregame ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 13, prior to the Revs' match against the Columbus Crew. Defender Michael Parkhurst won Defender of the Year and the team's U.S. Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year award.
Twellman also received the Revere Cup, signifying him as the Man of the Year from the Midnight Riders, the Revolution's independent support group. He was also awarded the team's Budweiser Golden Boot given to the club's top goal scorer.
Twellman, in his sixth season with the Revs, has paced the team in scoring for the fifth time in those seasons with 14 goals entering Saturday's game. Despite missing extended time while playing with the U.S. National Team, Twellman entered the weekend ranked fourth in MLS in scoring. He also entered the weekend ranked fifth on the MLS career scoring list, fourth in game-winning goals and tied for third in multiple-goal games. The 2005 MLS Most Valuable Player and two-time MLS Golden Booth award winner, won the team's Golden Boot for the third time in as many years and for the fifth time overall.
Parkhurst is now a two-time winner of the team humanitarian of the year award, having also won in 2006. Last year, he also won the league's U.S. Soccer Humanitarian of the Year award for his tireless effort in the community. On average, he makes at least one appearance a week and has become the face of the Revolution in the community, especially when it benefits local children.
Entering this weekend, Parkhurst had committed just five fouls in 23 games, also missing time while playing with the U.S. National Team at the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Cranston, Rhode Island-raised Parkhurst is also one of the top central defenders in MLS and is a candidate for the league's Visa Defender of the Year award.
Revolution captain Steve Ralston was also presented with a bronzed boot by adidas in recognition of his record-setting assist performance during his 12-year MLS career. Ralston, who entered the weekend with 119 career assists, set the league's all-time assist record on July 14 in a 1-0 win at the New York Red Bulls.
