Revolution 3, Toronto FC 0 -- quote sheet

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 3, TORONTO FC 0

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the game:

"It's good to get a win at home. I think we deserved it. I think 3-0 flatters us a wee bit. I think if you look at 3-nil on paper it looks like an easy win, but it wasn't easy. They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half, but we're talking about closing games out. And it was important in the second half, particularly, that we didn't go gung-ho and charge forward and leave holes and then we lose a goal. And I think we did that. We competed with them; they're a big, strong team that competes well and I thought we were smart."

On Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis' performance:

"I think what was huge tonight was that they had a chance at 2-nil and Matt Reis pulled a save. I spoke to him after and said it's huge when you do that. It just settles everything down and we go on from there, which we did."

On Revolution midfielder Wells Thompson's performance:

"I thought Wells Thompson did real well tonight. He looked dangerous going forward and I thought he was effective defensively. So, we've got a couple of decisions to make (when the players return from the Gold Cup)."

REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS

On making some key saves to preserve the shutout:

"It was like when I was 10 and I was flying around. I felt like I had a computer chip in my gloves and that's how it was tonight. No, in all seriousness, I think we did a good job closing them down and the shots they did get on me, I was able to get a good read on. And it was extremely important to make those saves and keep it 0-0 rather than fight back like we've had to these past few weeks."

On the defense:

"The last couple of games we've been disjointed and have been all over the place, but today we were compact and our spacing was very good. It was definitely back to how we had been defending all year before these past results. I think everyone in the back took it upon themselves to get the job done."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER ANDY DORMAN

On snapping the team's three-game winless streak:

"It feels real good to get the win. The last few matches we should have gotten three points but we've slipped up. We have been scoring goals but we've had a few lapses and lost the result. But today, the defense was brilliant and when that happens it's tough to lose."

On the physical play of the game:

"We knew it was going to be a physical game. Toronto has some big, physical forwards and they are a physical team to play against, but we were able to battle with them and matched them in that department."

TORONTO FC HEAD COACH MO JOHNSTON

On the loss:

"I just lambasted (my team). I'm clearly disappointed in almost all of them. I'm not happy. It's certainly unacceptable, the way they played. In the first half and second half we defended poorly. We had two or three clear-cut chances in the first half, in the second half nothing. I'm not happy with the way we played, the way our attitude was, the way we came out in the second half."

On being without his full squad:

"We need our guys to come back. Our squad is bare as it is. That's why we didn't use any substitutes. We just got two guys back from the Gold Cup. With the big guys missing, I'm not making it as an excuse. We were fairly beaten tonight. And to be honest with you, this team's going to get better, but the attitude needs to change and the way they played tonight. But there was a certain thing in our play that was disappointing and I told them so."

On being without starting goalkeeper Greg Sutton:

"(Goalkeeper Greg Sutton's) health is uncertain at the moment. We have a meeting on Monday. We also need Greg Sutton in the goal. He's a good goalkeeper. I'm not going to say anything about our backup goalkeeper. Obviously, we didn't defend well. When you come in here, and play a team like this, you need to defend. We gave up two sloppy goals."

TORONTO FC DEFENDER JIM BRENNAN

On losing 3-0:

"I'm very disappointed in the way it went tonight. We started off slowly. We were second to every ball. We couldn't get our momentum going. We just weren't right tonight. We've got to go back to the drawing boards and work harder. After the first goal, you concede it and you're chasing the game. And then we conceded another one so you're 2-nil down going into halftime. It's always tough to come back from 2-nil down. We've got to string our passes together. We couldn't break the front on the third pass and fourth pass. We were off tonight; we all knew we were off tonight. It's one of those things where it's tough to believe. We're gonna prepare ourselves for Kansas City now.

On the difference between playing at home and on the road:

"We've been very good at home. We're tough to beat when we play there. We just need to get things right from the get-go. Hopefully we'll turn it around now because we're going be on the road for a while. We're going to have to turn it around. We've got good players here who know how the form we play. But, we just got to get things right and get ready for next week."
