Revolution 1, Red Bulls 0 -- quote sheet

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 1, NEW YORK RED BULLS 0

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On the Red Bulls' overall performance:
"Best we played in a long time. We played against a very good team that has experienced players in every position and a little bit better than the team we put out on the field tonight. It's a game where both teams had good chances in the first half. In the end their experience made a difference on the day. For the most part, I think we gave a great effort for 90 minutes."

On Juan Pablo Angel's red card:
"I didn't see it. I think if he hit a player with his elbow, it wasn't intentional."

On Jozy Altidore's impending return:
"We will have to see what he looks like once he gets back. It will be nice to get him back, but we will just have to wait and see."

On Juan Pablo Angel's performance:
"He is certainly a marked man and they did a very good job competing on every ball to him and having said that, he had two chances. Strikers in those games don't have many chances."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On the red card:
"One thing that I will say is that I didn't have the intention to hit him. I went for the ball and didn't move my elbow at all. I didn't have the intention to hit his face at all. I am disappointed at the sendoff today but I am looking forward to coming back stronger from this."

On the team's scoring chances:
"We didn't have a clear chance to come back, just a few half-chances. But in general, there wasn't that much in the game. I think it was a pretty even game. I think it was more of a scrappy game in the middle."

On improving as a team:
"We have to keep going and building every week, trying to improve. I think we've got a good group of players here and it's a long season. There is still a long way to go and we've got a good chance to do something here."

On Jozy Altidore's upcoming return:
"He has done a great job for the national team in the U-20 World Cup. I am sure he will come here with a lot of confidence off that performance. Hopefully he will be a good addition again."

On constant double teams:
"It's been hard to get chances over the last few games but it's part of the game and we've got to build with it and we've got to get better."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER CLAUDIO REYNA

On the New England goal:
"It came at a time where we were playing really well. We had the upper hand but it was a really good goal. They countered, so it was a great finish. Into halftime, we just kind of had to hang in and regroup but we never really got it going."

On Jozy Altidore's return:
"We'd like to have him back. We definitely have a good enough team to make up for his loss. He's young but he can give us a good lift. It will help to have everyone back."

On Juan Pablo Angel's red card:
"I was there. I think it was harsh because it was one of those where he has to protect himself. If he didn't have his arm up, he is the one getting hit and on the ground. He didn't throw an elbow; he just had his arm up."

On the double-teaming of Angel:
"He's our main weapon up front and he lives off crosses. They know he is dangerous. Whenever the ball goes by you can see there is pulling and grabbing. He has to deal with a lot of that stuff and that's difficult but he knows how to deal with it. Obviously, he is one of the leading scorers in the league so he is going to be man-marked really tightly."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER JOE VIDE

On the game:
"Top to bottom I thought it was overall pretty equal. They took adventure of their opportunity and put a goal in the back of the net. We had as many chances but nothing fell our way unfortunately. It was a good effort and nothing to hang our heads about and come out for next weekend."

On the defensive performance:
"The backs did a great job from the first minute to the 90th minute. [New England] didn't really get too dangerous. The defense did a great job on Twellman and Noonan because they play well with each other."

On his first start:
"I'm pretty tired right now. I was happy to be out there, to get a chance to play and contribute to the team. It was the first time this season that I got significant minutes so hopefully I will keep building from there."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the game:
"I think it was a very solid performance. I thought we were great during the first 20 minutes. Then after we got the goal we were just spectacular, just solid all around."

On getting a win going into the All-Star break:
"It is nice, but there should never be a reason to win a game. We want to win every game we play in."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER STEVE RALSTON

On getting the MLS record setting assist:
"I mean if you want to call it that. I really didn't do all that much. I thought Shalrie (Joseph) put a great ball to Andy (Dorman) who had a fantastic finish. I'm glad it's over with and we can move on and play."

On the game:
"I thought it was a great performance for everyone who stepped on the field, not only the first 11 but the subs as well. Defensively it was one of our better games we have played in a long time. Everyone is really excited and it will make our bus ride a little easier right now."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER MICHAEL PARKHURST

On the game:
"It's always a physical game when we match up against New York and playing on the turf doesn't help at all. We expect a battle every time we come down here and that's what it was. I thought we did a great job defensively on closing down people and denying crosses. I thought it was an overall great team effort defensively."

On the first half of the season:
"The first half has gone well overall. I'm pretty pleased where we are at the top of the league. We have played well and I thought this was our first 90-minute game we put together and hopefully we can build on that for the second half of the season."
