The Real Salt Lake reserves (2-0-1, 7 pts.) maintained their place atop the MLS Reserve Division standings with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves (1-2-0, 3 pts.). St. Kitts & Nevis FW Atiba Harris scored two goals while MF Christian Jimenez added one goal and two assists to stretch the RSL reserves unbeaten streak to three games.
Real Salt Lake struck early in the 9th minute of play when MD Kevin Novak's low driven shot from the edge of the box was saved by Galaxy GK Steve Gonzalez, but Jimenez pounced on the rebound and drove his shot into the net for the early 1-0 RSL lead. RSL nearly doubled the advantage five minutes later in the 14th minute when US MNT U-20 DF Nik Besagno drove a long ball over the Galaxy defense that MD Joey Worthen slotted past Gonzalez but bounced of the left post and out of bounds for a goal kick.
In the 36th minute, the combination of Jimenez and Harris scored on the first of two free kick set plays when Jimenez drove a free kick from 40 yards out near the right touch line that Harris headed past Gonzalez to double the RSL lead to 2-0. RSL would come close to scoring once again just before the half when DF Cameron Knowles header hit off the cross bar in the 40th minute.
Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles Galaxy started the second half with no changes to the reserve lineups. RSL capitalized on their offensive pressure when in the 55th minute, Jimenez drove a free kick near the left touchline from 35 yards out to the back post that Harris headed into the upper left corner for the final 3-0 margin of victory.
