Reserves: LAG 2, RSL 5

The Real Salt Lake Reserves (1-1-0, 3 pts.) used a four-goal effort in the first half to run away to a 5-2 victory over the LA Galaxy Reserves (0-2-1, 1 pt.) in the Utah side's 2008 MLS Reserve Division home opener this morning at the Quinn's Junction sports complex in Park City.

The RSL Reserves would score early and often in the first 45 minutes, with FW Yura Movsisyan getting the parade towards goal started just 35 seconds in, finishing a pass from Tino Nuñez into the LA net to lift the home side to a lightning-quick 1-0 advantage. RSL Reserves MF Kevin Reiman would double the lead in the 26th minute when he capped his own lengthy run down the left flank with a low shot to the far post that beat Galaxy Reserves GK Josh Wicks.

The RSL Reserves would get two more goals from the penalty spot during the remainder of the half, the first set up just after the half hour mark when DF Dustin Kirby was taken down by a hard-charging Wicks just inside the area after he played a clever give-and-go with MF Matias Cordoba, who stroked the ensuing penalty kick just inside the right post to stretch the lead to 3-0. Just before the halftime whistle a run from RSL MF Brennan Tennelle was halted by a foul from Galaxy MF Brandon Owens, resulting in a second spot kick. Movsisyan stepped up and converted with another low shot, this time sticking it inside the left post to bring the RSL lead to 4-0 at the interval.

The onset of the second half would see the visitors get one back from the spot themselves, set up in the 48th minute when Galaxy MF Bryan Jordan was knocked off the ball with a hard shoulder inside the area by RSL DF Drew Van Wagenen to draw the opportunity from the spot, which Jordan himself converted with a low shot inside the right post to put LA on the board. The Galaxy Reserves got one from the run of play in the 67th minute, when MF Josh Tudela's well-placed effort from the top of the area got past RSL Reserves 'keeper Chris Seitz, cutting the lead in half at 4-2. But RSL would get reclaim its three-goal lead in the 75th minute, when a quickly-played passing sequence between Cordoba and FW Robbie Findley ended with a chance for FW Adam Acosta, who buried a shot past Wicks to end the scoring at 5-2.

The RSL Reserves will get back to action next weekend at Quinn's Junction, with the Utah side hosting the FC Dallas Reserves (0-1-1, 1 pt.) next Sunday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. MT. After enduring a busy early season schedule in the MLS Reserve Division, the Galaxy Reserves will have more than a month off before returning to action on June 8, when they will play host to the defending champion Colorado Rapids Reserves (0-0-2, 2 pts.) at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
