Carson, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves defeated the Chivas USA Reserves with a score of 4-0, improving their record to 3-5-2. The crowd of 130 witnessed a commanding Galaxy performance characterized by great speed of play and relentless defense.
The Galaxy found the back of the net in the 6th minute, after Herculez Gomez beat two defenders near the right corner and whipped a ball across the area to an unmarked Josh Gardner, who headed the ball pass a diving Burpo. Six minutes later the Galaxy were forced to substitute an injured Josh Hansen, due to a left ankle injury.
After a foul on Gomez just outside the area, Gardner fired a dangerous free kick toward the goal. Burpo parried the ball, but Glinton volleyed in the rebound for the Galaxy's second tally of the game.
The Galaxy went into the break with a 2-0 advantage despite several more threatening attempts on goal.
The Galaxy began the second half by continuing their pressure on Chivas USA's goal. Just three minutes into the half, Gomez added to the Galaxy's tally by calmly tapping in a cross from Enfield.
After enjoying a relatively quiet first half, Cronin was called upon to make a few critical second-half saves to preserve the Galaxy's shutout. He denied some dangerous corner kicks and smothered several through balls to shut down the Chivas attack.
The fourth and final goal of the game came in the 57th minute, when Glinton's quick run caught the Chivas defense off guard. After receiving the ball from a throw-in, Glinton held off two Chivas defenders and calmly slotted the ball to the far post.
