Red Bulls-Toronto FC quote sheet

NEW YORK RED BULLS 3, TORONTO FC 0
NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On the combination of Juan Pablo Angel and Jozy Altidore:
"I think our forwards worked very well today from the start creating chances either for themselves or for others. They had a good mentality today and they work well together. The last couple weeks, they've worked hard in training. Jozy is getting very comfortable with Juan. That was a really positive performance by our entire team but our forwards certainly played well today. All of our guys played well today.

"Over the last six weeks, we are a team that hasn't scored a lot of goals and been that dangerous. Anytime you have a team with two forwards that can play with both of each other, be dangerous and score goals, you have a head start there."

On the week off between games:
"When you have a little time off, it's difficult. But, we've been physically just beat up all season and to have a little time off and to reevaluate each player individually which we did over these two weeks with them has been important. Hopefully we can build on this and get a few more games where we get three points."

On the additional time off for Jozy Altidore:
"It was good for Jozy. He needed a little time off, but he is young and he recovers quickly. When the games are piled up on top of each other it's difficult. It was good for all of our players on the physical side. Perhaps on the mental side as well."

On the decision to not play Carlos Mendes:
"It was just a decision. He missed the Chivas game and he was sick a couple days before the game. I thought [Seth] Stammler played well in that center back position and we wanted to keep that position together, but we certainly still have plans for Carlos playing."

On the versatility of Seth Stammler:
"I think Seth has to find a position were he can be solid game in, game out. I think he's been a bit of yo-yo for us because of the way we've had to juggle him around. I think his most natural position is center back; perhaps we can get him a little more experience there."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JOZY ALTIDORE

On the game:
"I think the team was energized. We were able to move the ball and there was more creativity. I think the score showed that."

On combining with Juan Pablo Angel:
"It's not too hard. For me, he takes on all the hard work and all I have to do is sniff out the balls that he wins and connect from there. It is real easy for me to play with him."

On the Red Bulls scoring three goals:
"It's big for us because right now everything is so close. If Columbus would have won last night everything would have been packed in. Right now, all we have to do is keep going and looking for three points."

On playing David Beckham August 18 at Giants Stadium:
"It's going to be great; everyone is excited for this because he's going to bring a lot of people to the pitch. It is going to be a lot of fun playing in front of a crowd like that."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On scoring for the first time since June 16:
"I think more importantly it was a far better performance overall. We looked stronger and more confident as a team and we got the three points we really needed."

On the two weeks off:
"I think it was two weeks of very solid work and we solved many things today. We wanted to win today and give ourselves a chance for the next few games."

On playing with Jozy Altidore:
"We haven't played that much together but we have found each other a couple times. We got some players on the bench like John Wolyniec, who have stepped in and played well. But again, I am happy today with our performance and the win."

TORONTO FC HEAD COACH MO JOHNSTON

On the traveling support for Toronto FC:
"[It is] wonderful. It's just unfortunate. I feel bad for them coming all this way, and then they're being cheated because they want to see the best players on the field. The injuries we've had we can't do anything about. It's just as simple as that.

"They're enthusiastic, they want to see their team win and get upset when we lose. Are we disappointed? Yes, but are we down? No, because we know we're a better team than this."

On the team's goalless drought recently:
"Obviously, we're not threatening as much because of Danny [Dichio], because of Cunningham, because of Ronnie [O'Brien]. That hurts, it hurts immensely. When you've got Cunningham in there, he makes the back line scared because of his pace."

On Jozy Altidore's performance:
"[He is] what I saw last year when I picked him in the draft. He's someone who's going to be unbelievable. He muscled our back line, he scored two goals. He was a force between the midfield players and the strikers. For me, he was better than Juan Pablo [Angel]. And the kid's 17 years old. He's strong, and he's going to get better. The only thing is how long you can keep a hold of him, because somebody's going to come in and buy him."

TORONTO FC GOALKEEPER KENNY STAMATOPOULOS

On the team's expectations given the rash of injuries:
"We're all professionals here. We have a great squad with players that are getting their chances now and have to prove themselves -- including myself. We have a great squad. We shouldn't look at the quality of the players, we should just go out there and get a result."

On the traveling support:
"[They're] fantastic. When I heard them in the tunnel, I thought they were the Red Bull fans. Then when I came out I was surprised. Unfortunately it didn't help us today."

TORONTO FC DEFENDER JIM BRENNAN

On the Toronto FC fans throwing bottles onto the field:
"They're disappointed. What can I say to them -- I'm disappointed myself. If I were them, I'd throw bottles onto the field as well. We were disappointed in ourselves today. For our fans, they came all this way and they want to get goals and put effort in where you're going to get three points, but obviously we got nothing today. We apologize to our fans for the way we performed today, but we can't thank them enough for at least coming, anyway."
