Red Bulls stay busy during offseason

Joe Vide is taking it easy in the offseason and represeting RBNY in the community.

his mother.

Except this time the venue is the Wynne's living room and the games include Scrabble, Yahtzee and a dice game called Bupkis. Wynne is usually the champion in Bupkis, but Mrs. Wynne frustrates and out-wits her son in Scrabble.

Wynne also took the time to cheer on his alma mater, UCLA, as they defeated Harvard and Clemson on their way to the NCAA College Cup Final, where they would play UC Santa Barbara. He could not make the final in person, as he was with the Generation adidas squad as they toured England. UCLA fell 2-1.

"It was tough not to be there," he said. "[Fellow UCLA alum] Pat Ianni and I were pretty nervous the night before. I went to sleep and the next morning I went to find him and he said we lost. I was heartbroken."

One thing he did take from England was a newfound team to cheer for -- Liverpool. Wynne became a fan after the team went to a Liverpool vs. Fulham match and he got pumped up listening to the fan support and the club's anthem, "You'll Never Walk Alone."

For downtime, Wynne has hung out in his hometown of Poway, Calif., watching movies, working out and visiting his beloved Panda Express for some Chinese food. He'll be hanging out at home for Christmas before traveling up to San Francisco for New Years.

Joe Vide
Midfielder Joe Vide has spent most of his offseason nearby Giants Stadium in Secaucus, N.J.

Vide is one of a handful of players who have stuck around the area for the holidays, serving as a part-time coach and staying in shape for next season. He has also been the most active player in the community , representing the Red Bulls at soccer clinics, charity tournaments and other events.

Aside from the occasional trip to Philadelphia or Washington D.C. to visit some college buddies, Vide's life has been quiet, especially without entertaining French teammate and roommate Elie Ikangu around.

"It's night and day without him here. Now, I don't get any more complaints about the noise level here by our neighbors and I don't have to worry if my house burns down when he's here and I'm gone. It's great," he joked.

Now Vide is spending a couple of weeks down home in North Carolina, doing work on some cars and enjoying the warm weather by getting back to his old stomping grounds on the golf course.

"When you've got a great swing like me, you never forget it," he said.
