Red Bulls' Roth knee surgery successful

Red Bull New York announced today that midfielder David Roth underwent successful left knee surgery yesterday to repair a detached medial meniscus from the medial joint capsule. He sustained the injury during the team's preseason scrimmage against Hammarby IF on Feb. 15. The surgery was performed by Dr. Riley Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Roth is expected to recover in 3-4 months.

Roth was drafted by the Red Bulls in the fourth round, 44th overall from Northwestern University in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. The 5-8, 138-pound midfielder from St. Louis, MO, was a NSCAA All-American Second Team selection (2007) and a two-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team pick (2006-07) and scored 19 goals and 32 assists in 83 games over his four years at Northwestern.
