Red Bulls 3, Wizards 3 -- quote sheet

NEW YORK RED BULLS 3, KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 3

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On whether he's concerned about the defense:
"I'm very concerned. It's been poor. It's a combination of things, but anyway you look at it, it hasn't been good."

On whether this is a fortunate result for New York:
"Yeah, I would say so. That's a game where we had a chance to make it 3-0, and then we're fighting for our lives in the 90th minute to get a point. Not a well-played game on our part, that's for sure."

On specific factors leading to the defense's poor play:
"Well, it's a combination, it's not just the defenders, it's the whole team. We lose the ball too easily, midfield marking isn't good enough, our organization in the back is poor. It's a combination of things."

On how he thought goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus played:
"Adequately, at best. I think he made a mistake on the third goal. He made a big save at one point in the second half, but that's a mistake for a veteran goalkeeper to come off his line like that."

On Juan Pablo Angel's continued success:
"He's doing well and I think we can help him even a little bit more by doing a better part passing and everything else. But he's obviously done well."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On the tie with Kansas City:
"I personally don't feel fortunate at all. The first half was all Red Bulls and the second half, they came out on top of us. It is disappointing but at the end of the day, you have to give them credit. Saying that, it is better to take a point than not take anything at all."

On not scoring a third goal in the first half:
"Yeah, but it's hard to tell if it would have mattered. They played very well in the second half. We couldn't manage their counterattacks and they passed the ball better which caused us to struggle. At the end, we got an equalizer and that's positive."

On scoring nine goals in seven games:
"I think it's been a very hectic start for me. I'm happy to help the team with my bit. We know we have to do better from here to get into the playoffs and win something. But, we have real quality in this locker room and we're still high in the table."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER CLAUDIO REYNA

On feeling fortunate with the result:
"Yeah, I guess you could say that. We fought hard and had a good reaction after falling behind 3-2. The guys who came on gave us fresh legs. We let three points slip away."

On squandering the early 2-0 lead:
"We defended too much and we were too far back. We let them get back into the game. That's sometimes a problem when you score two goals quick. I think it was similar to [our game against] Chicago, we dropped off a lot but the difference was we scored the third goal in that game."

On the off-week before a three-game road trip:
"I think it's much needed. After our last road trip a lot of the guys were fatigued. Most of the guys have been playing straight through from preseason and if you take that into account, we're about 25-30 games in. But, we'll get the proper rest and we're starting to get guys back."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO

On the game:
"I think anytime you're off on the weekend and then you have to go ahead and play on this surface, there's going to be an adjustment there. The hope is that it takes 15-20 minutes to get into the game and you're not down by two goals and [the fact that we were] was unfortunate for us. We showed a lot of character in coming back and credit to the guys - this team doesn't give up and we don't get frustrated. We always find ways to do well."

On the call leading to the Red Bulls' penalty kick:
"I didn't see the call at the end of the game. It's unfortunate. It didn't seem to me like [Burciaga] put a whole lot of body on [Wolyniec], but that's life. We walk away from New York against a very good team with a point and we look forward to our next game."

On the substitutes who came in:
"Yura [Movsisyan] was out of the 18 in the last game against New York and great athletes in any sport respond well to that kind of adversity. He's only 19 years old and he couldn't have responded any better. He spent the last 10 days working his tail off and trying to prove the coaching staff wrong and we felt like he was a guy who could come into the game and really make an impact and he certainly did.

"Adding to that, Ryan Raybould came into the game as well. We asked him to play as a right back and really push forward to make us look like we had a 3-4-3 formation, pushing Davy [Arnaud] up the field and he really did exact what we said and got the assist on the tying goal."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD YURA MOVSISYAN

On being excluded from the roster in the last game:
"You know what? Being part of the 18 or not doesn't matter. You have to come out and do your job day to day. Whoever is doing well during that day, during that week, that person is going to play. Coach put me on and I just tried to do my job, which is to score goals and help the team. That's what I came here to do and I got lucky today."

On his first goal:
"I saw the ball go down the line on the right side and all I had in my mind was to get to the front post because I knew [Ryan] Raybould was going to put it there. He put a great ball in front of the goal and I just tried to get a touch on it and it went in."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS MIDFIELDER KERRY ZAVAGNIN

On coming back:
"We had a great result at New England coming back from two goals and happened to get three points in that game scoring three consecutive goals. We showed great character in this game coming back, especially against a good team in New York. I think it took us a little while to get going and I think that was the cause of the two goals early. Once we gathered ourselves, I think we make a good account of ourselves and I think in the second half, we had a chance to steal the game so credit to our guys to hang in there. This team seems to be doing it week in, week out."

On scoring against a former team:
"At this point in my career, it's any other goal. The first couple of years, it was certainly weird coming back here but it's nice to score against a good team like New York; they're having a good season and they have a quality team. Anything to get my team back in the game, I'm excited to play my part."
