Red Bulls 1, Rapids 0 -- quote sheet

NEW YORK RED BULLS 1, COLORADO RAPIDS 0

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the Rapids' struggles:
"Goals come in bundles or they don't. Right now they don't. You can see frustration in the players. What else can we do? We'll keep working in training, absolutely, but there is nothing else. Just keep our heads up and keep working. It's just not bouncing our way right now. Hopefully somebody will kick the ball in and it will all break loose, but right now it's not happening. Creating that many chances, being put into positions to score, and not scoring -- it's frustrating. But now we have a break and the Open Cup."

COLORADO RAPIDS FORWARD JACOB PETERSON

On the Rapids' chances in the league:
"I think we can still make a run. This league is so up and down; teams go into slumps or go on streaks of five or six in a row. Hopefully we can get a win in the Open Cup and carry that momentum. We'll get some guys back over the break, and I think that will help us."

COLORADO RAPIDS FORWARD HERCULEZ GOMEZ

On improving:
"Confidence is everything for a player or a team. But if you don't have it you need to do the right things to build it. You have to concentrate. The sooner we start realizing that, the better of we will be. It's frustrating right now, but we are the only ones who can pull ourselves out of it."

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On the game:
"This was a typical MLS game. The part we did a little bit better was we defended as a team for 90 minutes. We are a little limited right now with so many injuries. We have not played well this month, but at the end of the day we are in first place after 15 games, and we've played six home and nine away. I'm the first to tell you it's not good enough and it has to get better. However, if you look at it, it could be a heck of a lot worse. I think Colorado played hard and put us under a lot of pressure trying to get the goal back."

NEW YORK RED BULLS DEFENDER KEVIN GOLDTHWAITE

On the game:
"They were very active and we noticed early on that they were pressing us. After the Houston game we sat down and as a back four we decided that we needed to be more cohesive and if we gave them anything we would give it to them out wide, and close the gaps in the middle. For the most part I thought we did pretty well, it was a much better defensive performance. As a team, it was better all around. It wasn't the prettiest game, but we'll take the three points, especially after playing in the humidity in Houston and the altitude here."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER CLAUDIO REYNA

On the victory:
"In this league every team has come to realize that winning on the road is difficult. We needed this ugly win to get us going, and get our confidence up going into the next five games. It's now halfway through and we are in first place, we have the next five games at home, we are reasonably healthy; we have to be happy. We needed the shutout for our confidence -- we haven't worked that well as a team defensively."
