Red Bulls 0, Chivas 2 -- quote sheet

CHIVAS USA v. NEW YORK RED BULLS

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On the play compared to Sunday vs. D.C.:
We actually played all right. We created more chances than we did the other day. We had much more of the ball, played better defensively; however we gave up two goals.

On the play of Chivas USA:
Give them credit in the first half, I don't think they had a whole lot at us and they certainly converted that one opportunity. In the second half it was fairly similar, almost identical images of both halves.

They played typical of a lot of teams on the road where they just pick their spots to go forward and to their credit the first goal of the game was enough for them.

On the team's attacking:
We had those chances early in the second half that certainly would have made the game different if it was 1-1 after 50 minutes.

We had a couple good chances but it wasn't good enough. We weren't clean enough in the last part for the field. We're having a tough time breaking down teams that defend with eight players like they did tonight so well. That's something that we're going to have to get a little better at.

On playing three forwards:
I'm not surprised that's the way they played. I wanted to play all three of them. I think (John) Wolyniec has been playing well enough to give him a chance to play and we wanted to try to be a little more aggressive going forward.

I don't think it was good enough. It's probably a little bit better with a different combination of players. I think there wasn't enough mobility. The service still isn't hitting good enough crosses to give our forwards a chance to get at the end of those things. In a game like this there were still chances out there that we could have converted that would have made the game a little different.

On the play of the defense:
It was a little bit of a tough break having our centerbacks out tonight. I had to make a couple changes but that's all part of it. You can't complain about that. Stammler had a good game for us tonight; he's one player that I would single out that was pretty solid on the night.

On the team's recent injury problems:
It's a tired group and I think once we hit the month of August we'll be healthy.

RED BULLS FORWARD JOZY ALTIDORE

On being shut out:
It's frustrating. We had a lot of chances, and we had it for the taking. We made two mistakes and they capitalized so, it was unfortunate.

On playing a 4-3-3 formation:
I thought it'd be good and we'd put a lot of pressure on them. I felt we still lacked a little bit of energy though and just couldn't put something together.

RED BULLS DEFENDER SETH STAMMLER

On the game:
Obviously, we know it's hard to put chances away too. We felt Chivas had two chances and buried them both and that's unfortunate for us. At the same time, we know we have to do better with our chances and hopefully put one away to at least tie it.

RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On the game:
Today was a strange game. I felt we created some chances and hit the post twice and then we made two mistakes which we were punished for.

On the 17-day hiatus before the next match:

I think in general it will be good to get some bodies back and get the team healthy. We're looking forward to the next part of the season and hopefully getting enough points to make it to the playoffs.

On not scoring in his last four matches:
You're not going to score every game and I know that. I'm not disappointed because we were still able to create some chances even though most of them were off set pieces, the chances were still there. I would be worried if I didn't get the chances. The goals will come again but I'm always more worried about the performance of the team than my individual performance.

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH PREKI

On the game:
We've been having a tough time on the road. Is it because we're such a young team and we're growing into the whole thing or is it that we don't really feel comfortable playing on the road? I don't know what it is, but I think tonight we played good. We came here and did a professional job, like I expect us to do every time we go on the road.

We were disciplined and we were for the most part, in almost every moment of the game, ... organized. We knew what we wanted. We knew our chances would come, and when they come, we'll put them away and have some success. Fortunately enough, things worked out tonight in our favor.

On Ante Razov:

With Ante, if he gets a chance in the box he can put it away. I thought today he finished his chance pretty good, and also he had a hand in the second goal, Sacha Kljestan's goal, to put the game away. He had a hand in both goals.

On holding off New York's scoring chances:
I'm not so sure if they had that many chances. If you're talking about long balls and crosses, yeah, they had a few of those. They had one good chance in the second half when Altidore got away from us and obviously he hit the crossbar. But hey, they're a good team, they have quality players there. I think when you go on the road and play a quality team like that, you've got to limit their opportunities, and I think we limited them.

CHIVAS FORWARD ANTE RAZOV

On playing well and earning a win on the road:

We wanted to start the second half of the season on a positive. A two game road trip in two very difficult places, and to get a win here is big for us. It's well-documented, our struggles on the road, and we've won a couple of games on the road now, so it's a good start. Now we've got to prepare for probably a tougher game in [Kansas City] Sunday.

On his goal and the service from Maykel Galindo:

He got out wide and just kind of drifted in the box and I got myself in between two defenders and was able to get a good head on it. I've actually missed a few headers in the past few weeks, and it's something that I've really worked on the past couple days in training, and this time, it paid off, so I'm really happy about that.

On his assist on Sacha Kljestan's goal:

At that point in the game, if we could just string passes together when they're pushing up, we could have got through them. I think if we would have done better on a couple other plays we could have got in just as well. I just needed to get it in behind the defense, he was in and he did a great job shielding it and maybe got a little bit of a lucky bounce.

On if he thought about moving closer to first all-time in MLS goals scored after he scored today:
No, just when you guys mention it. It's nice. Let's hope it will all add up when I'm all said and done, but the most important thing was three points.

CHIVAS MIDFIELDER SACHA KLJESTAN

On the importance of his scoring the second goal tonight:
It was just important that it was late in the game and it closed out the game for us. We had the 1-0 lead coming in, but they were coming down our throats a lot and the second goal kind of iced it a little bit. With six or seven minutes left, it's always important to put the game away.

On what it means to him to play so close to where he played at college (Seton Hall University):
Jason (Hernandez) and myself had probably 60 people total between the two of us. It's always exciting to come back and play at Giants Stadium because this is a place when I was in college, I watched Jason play here and I watched the MetroStars play and supported them while I was out here, so it's always a big deal for me to come back and play here.
