Real Salt Lake waive four players

Douglas Sequeira played in 18 game for RSL in 2006.

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake General Manager Steve Pastorino announced today that the team has waived MF Seth Trembly, DF Douglas Sequeira, DF Cameron Knowles and DF Jacob Besagno, bringing the total number of active players on RSL'S roster to 24.

Trembly was acquired by RSL from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a natural Fourth Round MLS Supplemental Draft Pick on April 20th, 2005. The feisty midfielder, known to his teammates and RSL fans as "The Bulldog", played in 22 games for RSL in 2005, with 11 starts, while notching two goals and logging 1,176 minutes played. Unfortunately for the six-year MLS veteran, his 2006 season was wiped out due to injury. Trembly spent all of 2006 on the injured reserved list after he tore his left ACL during pre-season training in Bradenton, Forida.

Sequeira was acquired by RSL, along with MF Christian Jiminez, from Chivas USA in exchange for DF Brian Dunseth on November 16th, 2005. The Costa Rican National Team Member appeared in 18 games for RSL in 2006, with 13 starts. Sequeira played both on the back line and as a holding midfielder for Head Coach John Ellinger, while notching one goal in 1,246 minutes played.

Knowles was selected by RSL in the fourth round (37th overall) of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft and has been a mainstay on the RSL Reserve backline during his two year tenure in Salt Lake, being the only player to start in all 22 reserve games over that span. Knowles appeared in four games for RSL's senior squad in 2005, with three starts, while logging 346 minutes. His 2006 season was limited to Reserve Team action, as he never saw the field with the Senior Squad.

Besagno, the older brother of RSL MF and 2005 MLS Superdraft Pick Nikolas Beagno (first overall), was acquired on loan from the Seattle Sounders of the USL First Division on September 9th, 2006. Besagno appeared in three games for the RSL Reserves, logging 131 minutes played.

"We thank these players for their contributions to Real Salt Lake on and off the field", said Pastorino. "All four are great pros who will find a place to play in 2007 and beyond. We wish them well."
