Rapids 1, Galaxy 0 -- quote sheet

COLORADO RAPIDS 1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 0

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON

On the game:
"People can not say that we didn't try tonight. If there is anyone in that stadium that thought that the players didn't play their hearts out, then they are crazy. It was not a lack of effort tonight, it was a lack of execution. We had so many chances in front of the goal that we should have put away. I think we gave ourselves the best chance to score tonight, but the goalkeeper made three phenomenal saves which kept them in the game. [Bouna Coundoul] definitely kept them in the game. I am very disappointed with the loss. I thought we should have had a goal or two tonight. We were looking for a greater effort tonight, and we got it."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD ALAN GORDON

On the game:
"It is frustrating, but at least we are getting chances. You have to look at it in a positive way. Their goalkeeper made some good saves tonight, and we were unlucky. We created some good opportunities; we were just not able to finish them."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER TODD DUNIVANT

On the Galaxy's scoreless streak:
"Obviously we are frustrated that we still haven't scored. We are kind of snakebit right now, and that might be an understatement. We were generating a lot of chances in the end tonight, which was a bit of a change from what has been happening. We have to look at that as a positive and go back out. We had some really good opportunities that maybe on another day we would put away. We were creating a lot of chances and we have to look at that as a positive."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER TYRONE MARSHALL

On the Galaxy's performance:
"I thought everyone left it on the pitch tonight. Everyone worked hard. That was our main goal. We always fight for each other, but in the end we came up short in our finishing. We put out a great effort and fought every ball till the last whistle. If you look at it that way, we did well. But obviously, we are not satisfied. We can build on this. If we have 17 shots again, you can bet that we will put away some of those. We have to go back to the drawing board. It is a long season, so if we can get a few wins we are right back in the thick of things."

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the play of Bouna Coundoul:
"He is a young goalkeeper who is inexperienced, but an outstanding athlete and he showed it today. We have a lot of confidence in him and we knew he was going to do a good job, but we didn't know he was going to do a great job. I think the team played well and worked extremely hard. Last game we outplayed Columbus but couldn't get any points, today we did what we needed to do to get the three points that we needed."

On the Rapids' goal:
"We worked it out that we knew we needed to stretch them defensively and we needed Jacob Peterson to really play with Cobi Jones. Cobi Jones is a player that we all know is extremely talented and likes to go forward, so we knew we needed to use the space that was created when he pushes up and penetrate. Jacob did that and it was a great goal for a young player."

COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER BOUNA COUNDOUL

On earning his first career MLS win:
"I don't want to brag, but I knew I could do it. I feel like I have been playing well in practice, and I wanted to prove that I was ready. I feel like I did that tonight."

COLORADO RAPIDS FORWARD JACOB PETERSON

On his goal:
"I saw Eric [Denton] look up field for me and obviously he has a great left foot. He hits balls like that every day in practice, so I just made a run and he really did the hard thing and put it into my path and I just had to finish it."

On his play in his second MLS start:
"I still think that I have a ways to go. I don't think that I have shown all that I can do yet, but it always takes time. It is early in the season and I think we are still trying to gel as a team."
