LIVERPOOL - Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has vowed the club are doing all they can to keep midfielder Javier Mascherano at Anfield, insisting: "We will do our best to keep him here".
The Argentina international has been the subject of much speculation due to the complex nature of his deal on Merseyside, whereby the Reds have to pay a reported £17million to buy him outright.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for the holding midfielder, including Barcelona and Juventus, but Benitez told the club website, liverpoolfc.tv: "We know Juventus and other top sides are interested in him but we have the option.
"Javier is happy here and wants to stay.
"We will do our best to keep him here."
