SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 2, COLORADO RAPIDS 0

COLORADO RAPIDS HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the game:
"We started very poorly, and our passes were not connecting. When you play like that you are not going to get very many results. We didn't have the same attitude, we didn't move the ball quick enough like we have the last three games. San Jose is a good team, they have two guys up front who battle, are physical, and gave us all kinds of trouble. They have quality players. We have had a great attitude the last three games but today it was very poor. We never got going; this is one of those games where nothing happened for us. We couldn't create, and couldn't pass with the precision we wanted to. We only took two or three good shots; it was a total letdown as a team today."

COLORADO RAPIDS FORWARD HERCULEZ GOMEZ

On the game:
"In the first half there was no life, no energy, at least in the second half we showed signs of that. It's very difficult to go with three at the back. We should have tried linking up, I don't think in the first half we had three passes together. As the second half went on we noticed that that wasn't going to work and we just started lumping it forward with 30 minutes to go. We lost the midfield this game; that was the key."

COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER BOUNA COUNDOUL

On the game:
"For the past three games, we have been putting everything we have on the table and have been playing for the whole 90 minutes. This game we picked when to play hard, and when not to play hard. San Jose seemed like they were hungrier. In the second half we picked it up but it can't be like that. We need to be consistent for the whole game, every single game, whether it's at home or on the road. Sometimes it's good to lose some games early in the season, so we can get our heads together."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

On the game:
"We played well last week and didn't get anything out of the game, so it was nice to get three points tonight after playing another good game. We played and won tonight in a difficult place to play. The wind was tough tonight, but we fought through that and got a win that should get us going."

On playing to win:
"We talked before the game about not sitting back. We want to go at teams and create opportunities. The guys then did a good job defensively once we got the lead and really earned the win."

On getting the first win:
"I knew all along that we would be fine, but it is nice to get that first win so we don't have to think about it. We can't dwell on this one though because we have another tough one on the road next week we have to be ready for."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD KEI KAMARA

On the first win:
"Everyone has been working hard since preseason to get this first one. We have gotten better each game and we need to keep building from this. The team worked together tonight."

On scoring:
"All the attacking players were feeling a bit of pressure because we were hearing that we couldn't score goals, but we were able to break through with two tonight. We showed tonight that we can find the net. More goals are going to come."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER RONNIE O'BRIEN

On the game:
"It was a great win for us tonight. Last week we felt like we made some strides forward with how we played and tonight we finally got a win. We did what we had to do in the second half to kill off the game."

On chances in the first half:
"I could have had a hat trick by halftime with the chances I had. I am glad that I was able to get at least one to get us off to a good start. That is the way the game goes sometimes."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER JOE CANNON

On the first shutout:
"The defense played well tonight and it is always nice to get a clean sheet. In the first two games, we let in goals too early in the game that kind of put us on the back foot. Tonight we started stronger and got a nice win."

On winning back in Colorado:
"I already lost one against a former team earlier this year in Los Angeles so it feels good to come back here and win. However, more importantly we needed these three points and I think that they will be important down the road."
