SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1, NEW YORK RED BULLS 1

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

On the game:
"The first half was probably the best that we've played this year. We obviously gave them an early goal, but throughout the game, I never felt threatened even though they had, I think, one of the best players in the league on the field. Finishing is the thing that we are struggling with right now, but that will come."

On the team's performance:
"Overall, our performance was excellent. We were tired because of the heat that came with having an afternoon game, but it is what it is, and to be honest, I thought we were very good. I felt really happy with the spirit and the togetherness and the creation of chances."

On the three new players:
"(Francisco) Lima got back Friday night from Toronto and practiced on Saturday. He played great today and held his position well. Darren (Huckerby) was there until Thursday and also played great. I thought both guys played really well. With Scott (Sealy), the one header he normally buries he didn't, but I think that once he gets into his spot, he will score goals because he can."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER JASON HERNANDEZ

On the result:
"We did a good job of coming out really aggressively, trying to press them and force them into mistakes in their own half. We put them under pressure and started off on the right foot. That part of our game plan was pretty successful."

On being the glue in the back four:
"It's been great for me personally, just establish myself and get a lot of minutes and help the team in whatever position Frank (Yallop) needs me to play. It takes a little time to adjust from hopping into center back or right back. I think for the most part, we've done a great job in lining up wherever we need, picking each other up and carrying on with the task."

On the defense:
"It starts in the goal with Joe (Cannon), the confidence we have in him to make plays. We have a good chemistry no matter who we put back there. We are figuring out how to play off each other and get a good understanding. The defensive efforts have been pretty solid and hopefully it will continue that way."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER DARREN HUCKERBY

On his goal:
"I have been watching Scott [Sealy], he tends to turn and shoot pretty early so I knew he was going to shoot, but I didn't know if the goalkeeper was going to drop it or not. He dropped it and I don't tend to score many tap-ins, but it counts the same as a long shot, so I'm pretty pleased with it."

On pressing the back line of New York:
"They don't tend to play much out of the back in England, so it's a little bit different here, maybe you can catch the defense out a little bit. We created a lot of chances first half and we probably should have been two or three up."

On play in MLS:
"The competition is good. Everyone is very athletic. Everyone looks after themselves. Technically, it might not be as good here as in the UK. The Premier League is the best league in the world so that's just one of those things. It's difficult playing in the heat, so you have to be fit."

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH JUAN CARLOS OSORIO

On his team's performance:
"I think we didn't deserve the early goal and apparently that took us by surprise. Then they got back into the game and it became an even game. I think in the second half we had better control with our counterattacks."

On Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas:
"They probably watched the videos. They really marked him very tightly today. We played him wide in the 4-4-2 and he still managed to put some crosses in. He's getting used to the league. The teammates are getting used to him. I think there were some good signs today."

On the Earthquakes:
"With the new signings, I think they are becoming a good team. Darren (Huckerby) is a huge threat because of his ability to come inside. I think (Francisco) Lima has a good left foot."

NEW YORK RED BULLS GOALKEEPER JON CONWAY

On returning to San Jose:
"It's nice to come back. It was good to see everybody and come back to a place where I have good memories."

On the result of the game:
"It was ugly. We got off to a good start with the early goal. We just got a little sloppy and in the second half we did a little bit better. All in all though, a point on the road it's not a bad one.

On stopping Darren Huckerby's cross in second half:
"In the second half, we played better, but we still gave them a few more chances. Fortunately I was able to get my hands on some of them. Huckerby just tried to get one across and I was able to sneak it out before it got through."
