Quotes: NY 2, LA 1

NEW YORK RED BULLS 2, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 1

LA GALAXY HEAD COACH RUUD GULLIT

On the match:
"I'd be happy if we started better. It's the second time already that we started bad. We talked about it a lot. I think it cost this team a lot of energy also to come back from a goal down. In the end, I think we battled well. We didn't play well because the opposition has the opportunity to sit back and that causes you to lose so much energy. You tell them on the sideline -- use your head. And then you give a goal away. That is frustrating. That has to do all with yourself - talking to each other on the pitch, who has to do what. There is a little bit lack of leadership, which you need in moments like that. I think it's a game. It's frustrating because the team has it. They have the possibility. They can play very good football. Sometimes in a game they think we can still only do it on talent, but that's not true. We have to work hard every week and stick to our game plan. The second half, when you have a timeout, you can do something about it, and it all of a sudden goes better. It didn't go much better, but we didn't give away so many things, so many chances and opportunities. It was such a frustrating night because it wasn't necessary."

On the rookies and leadership:
"I think you if you see Sean Franklin, again he played an excellent game. Also Steve Cronin played a good game. It has nothing to do with the rookies. It has to do with your game plan. Stick to your game plan. Also not all senior players were having a good game. If something like this happens on the pitch, you need players that tell everyone to stick together now, we took some risks, stay tight and do your job. Unfortunately, you don't have a timeout like in basketball, where you can do that. You have to use the player that is closest to you. It's hopefully a good lesson. I didn't want to have this lesson. I wanted to have the result that we could have, but unfortunately we couldn't."

On losing the aerial battles:
"It depends. You just need one ball that falls in the right way. I thought today we didn't play well. This was not the team I saw for instance after 20 minutes in Salt Lake City. It was not the same as it was against Chivas. It can happen. I was happy to see how the team was fighting against despite not having the good form of the other day. You've got it finally then use your head. I don't think that we did that."

On anticipating the play:
"The thing is from the moment you see it coming. You see it already. You would of course have a clever thing to do to out do that situation. You would know what to do in that kind of situation. But that is because you have more experience. You can't expect that from the players. Maybe also you are in the position of the pitch that you couldn't do it. It's something when you have a lot of experience - you feel almost, see a sense of where the opposition might attack. Football is game that you all the time think what if. You are always anticipating, but I think nevertheless, I was happy with the way my team fought. Frustration is of course that moment when you immediately give a goal up. It shouldn't happen."

LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER DAVID BECKHAM

On the result:
"Frustrating night I think. To get back into the game and then lose a goal few minutes after. It's a learning curve I think. It's the start of the season. There are going to be some games we are going to play well and some we are going to play bad. I don't think we played too bad, but we were a little careless at certain points. And it costs us, especially when you play against players like the players they had up top. It's tough sometimes. And when you make mistakes you get punished by good players. So tonight's a learning curve. One we have to learn about quickly. It's disappointing to lose at home in front of our fans. We thank the fans for their support again. They turned out and made a lot of noise. Unfortunately, we couldn't create a win for them. You move on."

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH JUAN CARLOS OSORIO

On the game:
"It's three games in a row we haven't lost and I think it shows with a different formation we can get results away from home."

NEW YORK RED BULLS DEFENDER DAVE VAN DEN BERGH

On the game:
"We're improving from Dallas to Toronto to here. You see it in the results and I think we played better in Toronto, but we'll take these three points. It's always a tough road game here. But, I think we shut them down. They had some opportunities from set pieces like they will always get but other than that, I think we didn't give up a whole lot."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER DANLEIGH BORMAN

On his goal:
"It was a throw-in from the right side and Juan Pablo flicked it on and Jozy turned to shoot and took a shot and I found myself open and put it in. Juan Pablo always told me in the preseason to always stay at the back post and the ball will come to you and that's what happened."

On playing against David Beckham and the Galaxy:
"There was a big talk about David Beckham and going out and playing against one of the most famous players. It was really exciting because I've looked up to him when I grew up. I really enjoyed playing against him."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On the game:
"New York was the best team on the night. We had the better of the opportunities and took advantage of our scoring chances."

On the beginning of the season for him:
"It's been quite a difficult start for me in terms of the injury I've been having. I'm still not feeling 100 percent but I've been trying to get myself in good shape and the only way that you're going to do it is ... to play games and that's what I'm trying to do. Little by little, I'm getting there."

On scoring his goal:
"I think the most important thing was the way we reacted right after they tied the game. It was a great play on a counterattack and a perfect pass by Dane Richards. We were upset for having given up a goal, but I think the way we reacted leaves us all feeling good. They could have easily taken control of the game but we did not let them and that's the most satisfactory thing from the game."
