NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 2, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 0

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the game:
"At halftime, it was comfortable. I thought in the second half, as good as we were the first half, I thought we were as bad the second half. First half, I thought we were good. We were shooting a lot, could have been more. Some of the play was great, some of the passing, switching plays, I think it was great to watch -- certainly where I was sitting, it was -- but as I said as good as it was to watch the first half, it was as bad to watch the second."

On Mauricio Castro on the left wing:

"(Mauricio Castro) has a great left peg and can whip balls in. He did great but the two wide guys never got on the ball second half. Wells (Thompson) did a good job first half and Sainey (Nyassi) came on but when you have guys wide that are going to cause trouble, you've got to get on the ball and we didn't do it."

On Kheli Dube's first start:

"Excellent. (Kheli Dube) did a great job, he scored a goal, he held the ball up, he defended well and he made good decisions. All the things we asked of him he did high quality."

On the return of Sainey Nyassi:

"We felt as though we were dead and we felt putting (Sainey Nyassi) on may just spark everything. And it certainly did for a bit. But then we stopped getting him the ball. We need to be smarter. When you have a weapon and you see the other team is struggling against it, you have to be smart enough to keep feeding the guy."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER MICHAEL PARKHURST

On avoiding a second-half letdown:

"We were talking about it at halftime. That third goal is extremely important; if they got it, we would have gone down 2-1, and it's a whole new a game. So we were really trying to get that third goal in. We weren't sitting back and we wanted to score some goals for our fans and continue to play well."

On the defense not being tested:

"The guys in front of us did a good job of protecting us and cutting down passes and really dominating the midfield and making our life a lot easier in the back."

On looking forward to next week:

"Obviously, Columbus is on a roll and they're doing well. We haven't played them yet this season so it will be a good match-up. They go forward well and they defend as a unit. It will be a good game."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD KHELI DUBE

On the game:

"It's hard to just come in and start. (The coaches) gave me games to get adjusted to MLS. You can't just come in and play; you have to get used to the MLS style of play, so I'm just happy to be given the opportunity. It's always nice to start a match, but for me it's my first year so I was just happy with where I was, getting minutes to play, and now a chance to start. It's a good thing for me. The Revs are a good team."

On his goal:

"Shalrie didn't get a good touch on the ball, so it just happened that it just came to me. I had to make sure to finish it."

On not having as many opportunities in the second half:

"The good thing was that everybody kept on working hard. Even if things weren't coming our way, we kept on working hard and didn't concede a goal which is good for the team. It's just going to help us go into the next game with our heads high."

On Taylor Twellman coming back:

"All I care about is this team, I don't care about me being in the starting lineup. As long as I'm part of the team and the team wins I'm happy. It's a team game. Whatever happens, that's the coach's decision, and whatever decision he makes is good for me because I'm just happy being on the Revs. It's a good team in MLS, and it was my dream to come and play in MLS."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

On the game:
"You go away from home and give up a goal early and you tend to think you're in for a long night. Both goals were preventable, to be honest. It was a free kick into the box that wasn't dealt with by our defenders and then an own goal. (It was just a) bad start. We had to change the system a bit to try to get to grips with it. We sort of seemed to get a bit better. It wasn't a good performance. At least we didn't roll over and die at the end. That was important. I said to everyone at halftime that it's about character. We're not going to win every game. We don't have a full squad. Nick Garcia being out was a challenge for us. That's probably the worst we've played since the LA game. We're disappointed. We need to pull up our socks and be ready to go."

On Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph:

"The best player in the (midfield) position in the league is (Shalrie) Joseph. Now everything goes through him ... there's a reason why he's liked by every team in the league."

On the Earthquakes' substitutes:

"(Ryan) Johnson and (Shea) Salinas did a good job. There were some bright spots from our subs, but New England was cruising at that point. They weren't too worried that we were going to get back in the game at that point."
