SAN JOSE, CALIF. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today the club has named John Doyle as the General Manager of Soccer Operations. Doyle will be responsible for all aspects of the club's soccer operations, including the selection of coaching staff, the first team, the reserve team, and the club's player development programs.

"The addition of John to the Earthquakes is the first step in putting together a competitive and exciting team for 2008," stated Michael Crowley, President, San Jose Earthquakes. "John's experience in developing young soccer talent throughout the country, combined with his years of experience both on and off the field, makes him a perfect fit for the Earthquakes franchise."

Doyle spent the past nine years as the Director of Coaching for Mustang Soccer, where he was responsible for the training and development of coaches who oversee over 5,000 children from the Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek and San Ramon areas. Earlier this year, Doyle helped develop the Under 15 and Under 16 Red Bull National League, which gives elite youth soccer players the opportunity to compete against the best clubs in their region and across the country.

Doyle made his professional coaching debut in 2004 as an assistant coach with the San Jose Earthquakes and in 2005 helped the Earthquakes win the Supporters Shield with the best regular season record in the MLS.

In 2003, Doyle was appointed the Technical Director of U.S. Super Y League where his duties included the implementation of the ODP program and all Youth National team selections for boys and girls Under 14 to Under 19. In 2001, he was elected to the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors and was named to the U.S. Soccer Technical Committee the following year.

In 1995, Doyle was the first player selected by the San Jose Clash of Major League Soccer. Doyle was named team captain each of the five seasons he played with the Earthquakes organization. He was named MLS Defender of the Year in 1996 and was a member of the MLS West All-Star Team in 1997. At the time of retirement, he was the Earthquakes all-time leading defensive goal scorer and held the team record for games played.

Doyle was a member of the U.S. Men's National Team that was a part of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where the U.S. made its first appearance in 50 years. Doyle also played for the U.S. National Team in their first-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup and in the U.S. Cup.

A native of Fremont, Calif., Doyle graduated from Washington High School and was an All-American at the University of San Francisco.
