Quakes debut Buck Shaw vs. FCD

Adam Smarte and the San Jose Earthquakes will welcome some needed homecooking Saturday.

we'd never say that," said Yallop. "We want to try and win the game. We put out a team to win the match. It wasn't a weak side at all. It was a team capable of winning games. There were a couple of young ones that made their debut for us. It was an opportunity for them, and a lot of them didn't grab it."

FC DALLAS
FC Dallas became the last team in MLS to lose a game, seeing their four-game unbeaten run come to an end in a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution on MLS Primetime Thursday at Pizza Hut Park. The Hoops have eight points from five matches but still lead the Western Conference, a point ahead of the LA Galaxy, with the fifth-best record in MLS.
LAST MATCH
• FC Dallas came into MLS Primetime Thursday as the league's only unbeaten team remaining, while the Revolution has suffered through an injury-plagued beginning with just one win in their last four matches.
• But New England started to carry the match over the second 45 minutes after finally went ahead 18 minutes from the end. Khano Smith chased down a bouncing ball near the touchline, quickly turned to escape his marker and raced forward to the area, striking a low, right-footed shot inside the far post for the game's only goal.
• FCD head coach Steve Morrow made one change to the team that defeated Chivas USA 2-0 on the road. Juan Toja returned to the lineup in an attacking midfield role, in place of Ricardinho.
• Here's Morrow's team (3-4-1-2): Dario Sala - Drew Moor, Duilio Davino, Adrian Serioux - Dax McCarty, Andre Rocha, Marcelo Saragosa (Pablo Ricchetti 64), Blake Wagner (Dominic Oduro 79) - Juan Toja (Ricardinho 71) - Arturo Alvarez, Kenny Cooper. Substitutes Not Used: Mike Graczyk, Aaron Pitchkolan, Abe Thompson, Anthony Wallace
• "I think we deserved to get something out of the game. I think New England came in here and stole the game from us; we completed dominated the game from start to finish," Morrow said. "We're very, very disappointed to lose that game. They had one shot on goal the second half, and we're extremely disappointed."
TEAM NEWS
• FC Dallas ended the game with a season-high 16 attempts at goal. However, they ended with a season-low four shots on target.
• "We didn't put the ball in the back of the net, it's as simple as that," Morrow said. "We had enough chances, Reis come up with a couple of big saves. I don't think we created enough in the first half but we certainly had enough shots, enough possession to do better with it, so we're disappointed."
• Said Arturo Alvarez: "It's bad enough losing here at home. We should have shown a lot more. New England really didn't come out and play soccer. They didn't get a lot of scoring chances and took advantage of one."
• Before Smith's strike, FCD had not allowed a goal in 252 minutes. They were also the last team to be shutout this season.
• "We needed to get the ball in quicker at times, especially in the first half," Morrow said. "We got into a lot of good spots in the last third of the field and should have had a goal on a cross into the box. We talked about it at halftime and I think we did better in the second half. We dominated the game and we're very disappointed to lose it."
• In their first two matches of the year, the Hoops struggled to maintain possession and were punished for it with late goals. That trend reversed itself in shutout wins against the Red Bulls and Chivas USA, before they were beaten by the game's lone goal against New England.
• "We've focused on what to do when we had the ball and what to do when we didn't have it," Morrow said. "We got a little bit stronger defensively as a unit and everyone knows their roles a little better. We're defending better as a team, which is good. I think we've looked solid. One goal in the last three games is positive. As the games have gone on, we've done better with our possession."
• FC Dallas could have ended April as the league's only unbeaten team. "(I'm) a bit disappointed to finish it off [Thursday] night against New England, a disappointing loss at home," Morrow said. "The performance was very good and we dominated in possession. We certainly feel that we should have won. I think we stay positive for what we've done in the month of April."
