Quakes announce 2008 preseason schedule

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes have announced their preseason schedule as they prepare for the 2008 Major League Soccer season. The Earthquakes open training camp on Sunday, February 3 with physical examinations in San Jose, before beginning training on Tuesday, February 5 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The Quakes will spend time in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Luis Obispo and South Carolina in February and March, leading up to the season-opening game on Thursday April 3, against Los Angeles Galaxy at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.


The Earthquakes will spend the first week training in Carson, California from February 5 - 11 training at The Home Depot Center, before returning February 11 to the Bay Area where they have two matches scheduled, February 13 and February 16 against the Houston Dynamo.


The Quakes will depart on February 20 for San Luis Obispo, where the team will conduct preseason at Cal Poly from February 20 - 24. During their time in San Luis Obispo the team will compete in the MLS Central Coast Showcase against the Columbus Crew on February 22 at 7:00 p.m. PT and D.C. United on February 24 at 1:00 p.m. PT. Frank Yallop's squad will then return to the Bay Area where they will train from February 25 through March 12 before heading down to South Carolina.


The Quakes will make their final trek of the preseason to Charleston, South Carolina to play in the Carolina Challenge Cup against the Charleston Battery (USL First Division), Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls from March 13 - 23. The games for the tournament will be played at Blackbaud Stadium, home of the Battery. The team kicks off the tournament with a match against Toronto FC on March 15 at 6 p.m. ET. The Quakes next play the Battery on March 19 at 8:15 p.m. ET and finish up the tournament with a game against the Red Bulls on March 22 at 8:15 p.m. ET.


After training in the Bay Area for one final week, the Earthquakes kick off the 2008 MLS season at home on Saturday, April 12 against the Chicago Fire at 1:00 p.m. PT at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.
