Several of the star players in the Pan-Pacific Championship have played a role in spreading the soccer message to the Hawaiian community this week.

Six members of the Los Angeles Galaxy squad, including David Beckham, plus four players from Gamba Osaka, traveled more than an hour to take part in a coaching skills clinic at Waianae High School, involving around 150 members of the Leeward American Youth Soccer Organization.

The participants were delighted to see Beckham and his teammates, with the England international playing in a series of five-a-side mini-games that thrilled the local youngsters.

Earlier, Hawaiian favorite Brian Ching went paddle-surfing at Pokai Bay Beach Park, along with several of his Houston Dynamo colleagues and players from Sydney FC, in an event organized by the Pan-Pacific Championship, Active Hawaii and C4 Waterman.

The events formed part of the Kick Across Hawaii series which has been running all week -- an initiative aimed at promoting grassroots soccer across the Hawaiian community.
