Perrotta to play at Manchester

Roma should have more to celebrate when Perrotta returns against Manchester.

ROME - Roma have received good news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash at Manchester United with midfielder Simone Perrotta available to play.

World Cup winner Perrotta injured his thigh during Saturday's 4-1 league defeat to Internazionale.

The Ashton-Under-Lyne born player has been included in Luciano Spalletti's squad for their Group F encounter at Old Trafford.

"I really want to play," said Perrotta. "I felt a pain in my thigh but I will undergo further tests and I hope to be available to play."

Perrotta was not in the team that lost 7-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford five months ago, in what was the most humiliating defeat for the Romans in European competition.

Back then, Roma travelled to England with their morale sky high but this time, they will have reason to be weary.

Saturday's emphatic defeat, their first slip-up of the campaign, relegated Roma to fourth in the Italian standings - three points behind leaders Inter.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti does not want his players to dwell on the defeat as they seek their second ever triumph in English soil after eight failed attempts.

"We must forget our defeat to Inter and bounce back straight away," he said. "We are jumping into a completely different reality on Tuesday and we must be strong mentally."

With the top spot in Group F up for grabs, Roma will be looking to pick up where they left off in their 2-0 triumph over Dynamo Kiev in their opening Champions League game.

"In our heads we will only remember our first 20 minutes of the game against Inter," said Perrotta.

"Let's not forget we had to play for an hour in numerical inferiority (after Ludovic Giuly was sent off).

"But against Manchester United we will be ready."

With respect to the team that lost to Inter, Cicinho looks set to return to the starting XI to replace injured defender Christian Panucci.

The Romans will be without injured Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Taddei.
