Pachuca, TFC bookend big week for United

WASHINGTON, DC (April 1, 2008) - D.C. United announced club events leading up to Saturday's Major League Soccer home opener against Toronto FC. United begins the week with a CONCACAF Champions' Cup clash with Pachuca CF of Mexico tonight. A series of lunchtime promotions and appearances at the D.C. United Team Store are set for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before the Black-and-Red host Toronto FC on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

United is in Mexico tonight for the first leg of a semifinal showdown with Pachuca CF. 'Los Tuzos' advanced to this round having beaten CD Motagua of Honduras by a 1-0 aggregate score in the quarterfinals. The five-time Mexican First Division champion Pachuca qualified to the 2008 CONCACAF Champions' Cup after winning the 2007 Mexican Clausura tournament. Pachuca CF have won two CONCACAF crowns (2002 and 2007) in five appearances and a Copa Nissan Sudamericana in 2006. Tonight's match kicks off at 10:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Espanol.


United fans can get in the spirit for Saturday's home game by attending a series of events held at the D.C. United Team Store, located in RFK Stadium. On Wednesday, from 12 noon-1:30 p.m. ET, the store will offer a 25% discount on all official adidas D.C. United 2007 apparel. Marco Etcheverry is scheduled to appear at the store Thursday from 12 noon-1:30 p.m. ET. Friday will see customers receive a free D.C. United pint glass for every $25 spent in the store from 12 noon-1:30 p.m. ET.


The D.C. United Team Store is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. On game days, the store will open four hours prior to kick-off, through half an hour after the game. In addition to official team apparel, the team store will also carry a full line of casual wear, headwear, youth and women's gear, jewelry, scarves, home/office merchandise, drinkware and auto accessories.


United's MLS home opener against Toronto FC at RFK is set for Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Black-and-Red resume CONCACAF Champions' Cup play next Wednesday, when the Black-and-Red host the second leg of their semifinal series against Pachuca CF. Group tickets, package plans and individual tickets to United matches, not including SuperLiga games and the Los Angeles Galaxy match on June 29, are now available for sale.
