KIEV - Oleg Blokhin has resigned as coach of Ukraine.

The 55-year-old had said several months ago that he would resign if his team failed to reach the finals of Euro 2008.

Ukraine finished second in Group B, nine points behind second-placed France.

Blokhin took the job in November 2003 and led Ukraine to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2006 before they lost to eventual winners Italy.
