N.Y. adds Brunner, defensive help

Defender Eric Brunner will look to help strengthen the Red Bulls' defense.

the Red Bulls last two second-round picks were Altidore and Richards -- New York will have yet another impact player.

"The transition between college and pro is obviously different, but it makes you better as a player, playing with professionals like Angel and Altidore," Brunner said. "It makes you better as a defender playing against some of the best forwards in the league."

The Red Bulls also addressed a need when they selected University of California midfielder Luke Sassano in the third round (32nd overall) and Northwestern midfielder David Roth in the fourth round (44th overall).

"The thing we can say about Luke is that not only is he a good distributor, he's also a big boy and hopefully he can also contribute," Osorio said of the 6-foot-1 Sassano. "Speaking of left-footed footballers, that's probably one of the main attributes that David has over other players, that's he's left-footed, very busy, very dynamic. In general I think we are pleased with what we have."
