As David Beckham recovers from his right knee injury, rumors have already begun about his future plans in the MLS and in Europe. Los Angeles Galaxy fans can rest easy though as Beckham has never once wavered on the commitment he has made to LA, and Galaxy president and general manager Alexi Lalas put to rest any speculation that Beckham will be leaving the club.
"David is an important part of our organization for now and for the future," said Lalas. "Any talk of loans and transfers and all that kind of stuff is pure speculation and rumor and not something we have even discussed, let alone entertained."
Beckham, before his injury, was making an immediate impact for the Galaxy and forming a formidable duo with Landon Donovan.
"He has been playing at a very high-pressured level for a long time now and he needs to get healthy," said Lalas. "We have this period now where he is going to get physically fit."
In a whirlwind six days, Beckham played three games on two different continents, with games in New York and at home against Chivas bracketing an England international at Wembley Stadium in London.
First suffering from an ankle injury that kept him out of action when he arrived in late July, Beckham then suffered a knee sprain in the SuperLiga final against Mexican side Pachuca on Aug. 29. He is expected to miss up to six weeks with the latest injury, and the time off for rehabilitation could do him good not only for the physical ailments, Lalas said.
"Once the season is over, he and all of our players need to get a physical and mental rest, and really be given the opportunity to decompress and evaluate the experience they have gone through," Lalas said.
Fans around the world might have to wait for Beckham to fully recover from his injuries before they see him play again, but once he does they can be sure it will be in a Galaxy uniform.
