New England Revolution Update: August 6-12

The Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution will play two games at Gillette Stadium this week, hosting the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday against the Harrisburg City Islanders before welcoming the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday evening.

Please note that credential applications are due to the Revolution Communications office for Sunday's game by the close of business on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8. No credential requests for Sunday's game will accepted after Wednesday. All requests for the Open Cup game on Wednesday must be made by the close of business on Tuesday.

LAST MEETING New England 3, Los Angeles 2 May 13, 2007 - Carson, Calif. (The Home Depot Center) Taylor Twellman scored two goals - including the game-winner in the 85th minute - to give the Revs' their third straight shutout victory over Los Angeles ... Kyle Martino gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead headed into halftime, but Adam Cristman scored his first career goal off a corner kick in the 47th minute to level the score ... Twellman added an unassisted strike five minutes later to give the Revs a 2-1 lead, but Tyrone Marshall knotted the score in the 84th minute off a corner kick ... one minute later - off the kickoff, Twellman put away the game-winner and the Revs held on for their second victory in L.A. in as many seasons, pushing their undefeated streak against the Galaxy to six games.

SUNDAY'S GAME SOLD OUT On Thursday, Aug. 2, the Revs announced that Sunday's match against Los Angeles had sold out ... no further tickets will be available for sale for the highly-anticipated match-up ... the soccer capacity was expanded to 32,000 for the match, and will include the entire lower bowl of the Gillette Stadium, as well as the East Fidelity Investments Clubhouse.


CHARITY BENEFITS FROM SUNDAY'S GAME The New England Revolution Charitable Foundation raised $13,745.64 from the 22 online auctions for the pregame player escorts for Sunday's game against Los Angeles ... the escort spot for L.A.'s David Beckham raised $3,050.01, while Landon Donovan's auction raised $925.50 ... Revolution defender Jay Heaps was the Revs player with the highest bid, going for $717.77 ... New England's Andy Dorman went for $589.99, while the Revs' Taylor Twellman and Wells Thompson each went for $510.


TIME/TV CHANGE FOR AUGUST 16 AT COLORADO The kickoff time for the Revs' game at Colorado on Thursday, Aug. 16, has been pushed up one hour and the game will now start at 9 p.m. ET (7 p.m. MT) ... additionally, Fox Sports New England will televise the game live ... ESPN2 had originally be scheduled to televise the game live at 10 p.m. ET.


KEEPING THEIR DISTANCE After last weekend's games, the Revs have built a four-point lead in the Eastern Conference ... with 33 points in 19 games, the Revolution is four points ahead of Kansas City, which has 29 points in 19 games ... however, while the Revs have earned a bit of breathing room at the top of the table, the rest of the Eastern Conference is still a packed bunch: three points separate second place and fifth place ... D.C. and New York are tied for third with 27 points, and Columbus is fifth with 26 points.


MLS' TOP TEAM STATISTICALLY Despite the team's loss to D.C. on Sunday, the Revs are still MLS' top team in several important categories ... with a 9-4-6 overall record and 33 points, the Revs have a .632 winning percentage ... New England boasts the league's top scoring average (1.74 goals per game) and scoring total (33 goals) ... the Revs have the fewest losses in the league this season - one fewer than any team - and have taken points in 15 of 19 games.

TORRID SCORING The Revs sit atop MLS' leaders in team scoring average, netting 1.74 goals per game this season ... the team has scored 33 goals in 19 games ... last season, the Revs scored 39 goals in 32 games, for a 1.22 goals per game mark ... New England leads MLS in three-goal games this season with seven, one more than Kansas City (6) and two more than Houston and New York, who are tied for third with five three-goal games ... in total, the Revs have posted 10 multiple-goal games - more than half of their games this season.


HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE New England has improved its home record to 4-2-4 on the season with 22 goals scored (2.20 goals per game) ... the Revs have scored three or more goals in six of their 10 home games ... New England's 2.20 goals per home game is MLS' second-best home scoring average, behind D.C. United (2.63).
