New England-LA Galaxy quote sheet

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 0

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On the game:
"I think we totally deserved to win the game. We should have had it wrapped up by halftime. There were probably three fantastic chances that we should have done better with. When you don't kill the game off, there's always a chance they can come back in it, and, obviously when we scored the goal we went a wee bit defensive, as you do one-nil ahead, running out of time. And you know they had a couple of chances. They could have stolen a point. We had a great save from that. But I think we deserved it overall."

On the crowd:
"The crowds we have are very enthusiastic. You know that the Midnight Riders behind the goal are always loud. We have a good atmosphere here anyways. But, obviously with more people it's even louder. We said previously during the week, if you can't play in front of a big crowd and be able to relax and play you're best and go enjoy yourself then you're in the wrong job. So, did it help us? Absolutely. It helped us."

On LA's lineup:
"We're really not interested in the lineups of the team we play. We really come to terms with what we're doing. You know, obviously certain people on teams we play against can harm us and certain things teams do can harm us, but, at the end of the day, we go with and attitude of when we do our thing then they're going to be in trouble."

On David Beckham's impact:
"(It's) absolutely fantastic. You know, you look at the crowd we had here tonight, the crowd in D.C. I'm sure it's going to be it'll be big in New York. The impact has been phenomenal and great for everybody."

On if David Beckham had played:
"We take care of our own business and I think you saw in the first half particularly, when we do that we're dangerous and we create chances. Clearly, if he had come on or if he was playing, then for us it's simple -- the nearest guy closes the ball very quickly because if you don't, then he can hurt you."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS

On the challenge of playing in front of a big crowd:
"It's not very difficult at all, whether it's 1,000 people or whether its 50,000 people. When you're playing this game you have to be aware all the time and you have to be focused completely, otherwise bad things happen."

On impressing the home crowd:
"When you have that many people come out, you want to put on a show and you want to put on a good show. If we can get a couple of those people to come back and say, 'you know I had a great time tonight and you know that Revolution team is a good team and they play good soccer,' and I think overall that's what we're trying to do."

On closing out games:
"I think just the last couple games we've just toward the end not been protecting the ball as much as we need. Same thing with the Open Cup game -- if we keep the ball and possess it and pass it around and make them chase us, we can very easily see the game through."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD TAYLOR TWELLMAN

On scoring the lone goal:
"It's one of those where you get chances, and you just kind of keep fighting and keep going. It was one of those nights where my teammates had a great game, and I was just fortunate enough to get on the end of chances."

On the large crowd:
"It was awesome. I walked out on that field and I wish every game was like that. I think if the fans just gave us a chance and obviously came to more games -- obviously tonight was a great game and we did a great job -- we gave them a good show."

On L.A. midfielder David Beckham not playing:
"I think our product on the field is top-notch. I think the Revolution is worth coming out and watching play, whether Beckham's here or not. Hopefully the fans realize that and keep coming."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER SHALRIE JOSEPH

On the style of play in the game:
"When team's come here they sit back a lot. They don't come out and attack like the way we play. When we're at home we like to play attacking soccer and that's what we tried to do especially in the first half."

On missed opportunities early in the game:
"We definitely had a good couple of chances. We didn't finish, but we tried to stay strong and just keep plugging and keep going at it. We know eventually it's going to come, and Taylor (Twellman) did well to get it for us."

On the large crowd:
"I wish they would come every game, especially every home game. We get that fan support and we can let them will us on and push us on to get that goal. With fan support like that we definitely have to show the fans what we're worth, and I think tonight we showed them a great attacking soccer game."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

Overall thoughts on the game:
"We're obviously disappointed with the loss; it's another loss. I felt especially second half we could have gotten something out of the match. But again, we missed chances that were crucial in the match. You know, we weathered a storm early in the game where Taylor (Twellman) had quite a few chances early, but once we got ourselves into the game I felt at least we created some chances to score and played a lot better in the second half."

On being one short on the bench:
"We've got a few of the lads watching the game from upstairs. But I thought the guys that did come in and play did a good job. We've got a few guys banged up but we don't make excuses. You just got to get on without them. Mike Randolph had a good game at left back. Peter (Vagenas) played well in the middle of the field, Edson Buddle and Carlos (Pavon) did pretty well as well, and there was a chance for other people to play. But we are a little bit short with numbers for the moment."

On the scoring drought:
"We've got players that can score goals; they're proven goal scorers. But I think we created some good chances tonight to at least get something on target with power and to score and we didn't. I think Landon's (Donovan) chance was the one that really he's got to put in. He's knows it, he's sitting with his head between his legs at the moment saying 'I got to score that,' so we can only keep going and keep trying and keep doing the right things. I thought the response from the team was good. I felt that we didn't give up and we took it to the last whistle, which is important to note. Obviously we need to start getting some wins in a hurry, but I think the signs were there at least the team didn't quit. They team was trying to do everything it could to get into the game."

On what made the decision on Beckham:
"Well, we spoke to the physio this morning with David and we felt it was best after Thursday's game with the state of the ankle was swollen. We flew on Saturday it just didn't feel right and he felt he didn't want to risk it, so we decided not to dress him."

On the prognosis heading forward:
"We're hoping having a day off to day is going to make it better for Wednesday, so well see. We are flying again tonight. Hopefully by Tuesday morning he'll feel a lot better. I think the day off today helped him and he feels better walking around on it. It is sore. We're trying our best to get him back as quick as possible, but we got to make sure it's not done at the wrong times."

On Beckham's future impact on the team:
"I don't know, I need to see him play first. I think we're missing a good player. I mean obviously, I think that you know he's going to make a difference to our team and he did, in the 20 minutes he played against D.C. he did. Again, he hasn't trained with us, he's not been integrated with the team yet, were sort of getting to vital games, we're excited to have him with us we just want to get him on the field. He makes a difference to any game -- let's be honest. He makes a big difference to the match."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD EDSON BUDDLE

On the result:
"We're definitely disappointed with the result. I think we've done a good job on the road. Obviously, we need to get some goals in these games, so I think we know we could have done better."

On playing the full 90 minutes:
"I think getting back and running and playing 90 minutes is the easy part. The hard part is getting back to shooting and getting touches. We just need to get back to the drawing board at practice."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY DEFENDER MIKE RANDOLPH

On his first MLS start:
"It was really good. I wish we could have drawn a win but it is what it is, and hopefully we can bounce back next time."

On going back to LA after the long road trip:
"We are very happy. We have been on the road for about a week, week and a half. So it will be really nice to sleep in my own bed."
