In net at 41? Ceni vows to play till 2014

SAO PAULO - Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has vowed to play on until 2014 so he can take part in the World Cup in Brazil.

Speaking after helping his club to their second successive Campeonato Brasileiro title, the 34-year-old said: "I think I can play until 2014 because I want to play the World Cup here in my country. I don't want to stop in 2010.

"Yes, I will be 41 years old but in my position that is not an important factor."

Rogerio Ceni is lauded in Sao Paulo for his goalkeeping and his goalscoring prowess from free-kicks.

He played a huge part in the club's success this season, which culminated in the title following a 3-0 win over already-relegated America.

"To play football is something great, but do it in Sao Paulo is wonderful," he added.

"We completed a great campaign and I have no doubt that we will fight for next year's Copa Libertadores. We only need to maintain the squad and not to sell any players."

Sao Paulo coach Muricy Ramalho was delighted with his side's title triumph.

He said: "This is a great team and I think that some players have to be in the national team. Rogerio Ceni and Miranda deserve to play for Brazil."
