N.E. Revolution Update: January 21-27

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution technical staff will conduct an invitation-only tryout on Wednesday, Jan. 23, in advance of the team's preseason training camp, which begins Tuesday, Jan. 29.


The invitation-only try-outs will run 5-8 p.m. at the Dana Farber Field House on the grounds of Gillette Stadium. Revolution head coach Steve Nicol, assistant coach Paul Mariner and goalkeepers coach Gwynne Williams, as well as director of soccer Mike Burns, will oversee the approximately 40 Revolution hopefuls who will attempt to earn a full-team tryout during the club's upcoming two-month preseason.


Members of the media are welcome to attend the Revs' tryout on Friday evening, but must reply to the Revolution Communications via email no later than the close of business on Tuesday, Jan. 22.


On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Revolution will conduct entrance physicals in the morning prior to Wednesday's official start of training. There will be no media availability on Tuesday. The Revolution will officially begin daily training sessions on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at ForeKicks Sports Complex in Norfolk, Mass. There will be media availability at approximately 11:45 p.m., after the 10 a.m. conditioning session.


The team's complete schedule for the first few weeks of training camp is below. Please be advised that this schedule can change at any time and media wishing to attend any session must contact the Revolution Communications office ahead of time to RSVP and guarantee admittance.

From Boston: Take Rt. 128 or Rt. 95 to Rt. 1 south in Norwood. Follow Rt. 1 south into Foxboro (DO NOT take Pine St. exit in Walpole!). Go PAST Gillette Stadium and take a right at next traffic light (Pine St. exit, Lafayette House restaurant and Seasonal Specialty Store on right). Follow exit road to end and make a right onto Pine St (Rt. 115). Go less than 2 miles and Fore Kicks will be on your left hand side.


From Rt. 495 Northbound: Take Rt. 495 North to Rt. 1 north into Foxboro and follow to Pine St. exit traffic light (Seasonal Specialty Store Plaza on left). Make a left and follow exit road to end and make a right onto Pine St (Rt. 115). Go less than 2 miles and Fore Kicks will be on your left hand side.


From Rt. 495 Southbound: Take Rt. 495 South to Rt. 1A (Wrentham Outlets exit). Turn left onto Rt. 1A (South St.) and follow (turns into Dedham St.) Rt. 1A thru Wrentham center. Stay on Rt. 1A (Dedham St.) and follow across Rt. 140. Go 1.5 miles to next traffic light, make a right onto Rt. 115 (Pine St.). Fore Kicks will be 100 yards down on your right hand side.


REVOLUTION NEWS & NOTES
U.S. International Defender Albright Joins Revs

The Revolution acquired U.S. international defender Chris Albright from the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday, Jan. 18, in a trade that was announced during the 2008 MLS SuperDraft ... Albright, 29, enters his 10th MLS this year after playing the last six seasons with the Galaxy ... the right back has made 172 career appearances in MLS, scoring 11 goals and adding 20 assists ... in 2007, Albright appeared in five regular-season games before suffering a torn right hamstring on May 20, ruling him out for the remainder of the season ... he recovered by the end of the season and participated in all five of the Galaxy's postseason friendlies ... a member of the U.S. National Team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Albright has also earned 22 caps with the national team.


Revs Draft Five at 2008 MLS SuperDraft

The Revolution selected five players in Friday's 2008 MLS SuperDraft, which was held at the Baltimore Convention Center ... with their first pick - 13th overall - the Revs chose University of San Francisco defender Rob Valentino (6-3, 190 lbs.), a member of the Generation adidas Class of 2008 ... with two picks in the second round, New England chose a pair of Duke midfielders: Michael Videira (18th overall, 5-10, 175 lbs.) of Milton, Mass., and Joe Germanese (25th overall, 5-10, 165 lbs.) ... in the third round (41st overall), the Revolution selected Brown defender Matthew Britner (6-1, 180 lbs.), and capped the draft day by choosing Duke midfielder Spencer Wadsworth in the fourth round (55th overall, 5-8, 160 lbs.)


Supplemental Draft to Follow This Week

The Revolution has five selections in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft, which will take place via teleconference at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 ... the Revs hold two picks in the first round (eighth, 13th) and one each in the second (27th overall), third (41st overall) and fourth (55th overall) rounds ... the results of the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft will be available at revolutionsoccer.net and mlsnet.com later on Thursday.


Revs Trio Factors in U.S. Victory over Sweden

On Saturday, Jan. 19, three members of the Revolution helped the U.S. earn a 2-0 victory over Sweden in a friendly at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. ... Taylor Twellman and Pat Noonan started at forward for the National Team, with Noonan earning an assist on Eddie Robinson's game-winning goal in the 15th minute ... Noonan also factored on the U.S.' second goal, sending Jozy Altidore in on goal before he was dragged down by the Swedish defender, setting up Landon Donovan's penalty kick in the 48th minute ... defender Michael Parkhurst played the entire second half, and helped the U.S. post the shutout ... the U.S. returns to action against heated rival Mexico at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Reliant Stadium in Houston in a match that will be televised live on ESPN2.


Fox Soccer Channel to Televise Season Opener

When the Revs host the Houston Dynamo in an MLS First Kick match on Saturday, March 29, Fox Soccer Channel will be the exclusive national television outlet for the game ... the game is a rematch of MLS Cup 2007, in which the Dynamo earned a 2-1 victory over the Revs to repeat as MLS champions ... the match on March 29 marks the first time that the Revolution has hosted a season-opening match in the club's now 13-year history.
