Mulrooney joins Toronto from FC Dallas

Richard Mulrooney has eight seasons of Major League Soccer experience.

Toronto FC announced Tuesday the team has acquired Midfielder Richard Mulrooney from FC Dallas, in exchange Dallas will receive Toronto's 2008 first round MLS SuperDraft pick, along with a partial allocation. As per team policy, financial details were not disclosed.

Mulrooney, 30, will make Toronto FC his third MLS team in his professional career having previously played with San Jose, and most recently Dallas.

"It's very exciting that we have been able to secure Richard for a very good price, only giving up a partial allocation." Said Head Coach Mo Johnston from South Carolina, "he's a very good competitor, I've always liked the way he plays."

The 8 year MLS veteran joined Dallas from the now defunct Earthquakes January 14, 2005 in a large trade that also involved Arturo Alvarez, and Brad Davis. Since his move to Texas, Mulrooney played a large part in the team's success, and was named as a commissioner's pick in the 2006 MLS All-Star game in which MLS defeated Chelsea 1-0. That same year in October, he was recognized by the League as the MLS Comeback Player of the Year. In two seasons with Dallas, he started 30 of his 32 games, scoring three goals and adding 11 assists.

2005 was a tough season for Mulrooney as he tore his ACL early on, and missed the bulk of his first season with his new club.

Mulrooney has made 14 appearances with the U.S. Men's National Team, his most recent being in January of 2004. He made his debut with the squad December 9, 2001 against South Korea. Amid tough competition in the National team, he was named an alternate in the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan.

He spent 4 years at Creighton University, where he recorded 51 assists between 1995 and 1998. His play helped lead the team to the NCAA Final Four in 1996, and was named an NCAA All-American as a senior.
