McTavish undergoes successful surgery

Washington, D.C. (January 3, 2008) - D.C. United announced today defender Devon McTavish had successful hernia repair in Munich, Germany. McTavish, who was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, underwent a procedure on his left abdominal wall. The 23-year old will take two to three weeks to recover and is expected to be ready for pre-season training.


After a 2006 rookie season saw McTavish participate in five games (three starts), the defender saw increased playing time last season. The Winchester, VA native made 22 appearances (20 starts) for the Black-and-Red, totaling 1,825 minutes. The adaptable defender saw time mostly at the center of the team's four-man backline, but also contributed as an outside back and in the midfield. McTavish was originally acquired by United in the fourth round (43rd overall) of the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.
