Los Angeles Galaxy agree to terms with Honduran national team forward Carlos Pavon

CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy have agreed to terms with Honduran international forward Carlos Pavon, pending a work visa and International Transfer Clearance (ITC), the club announced today. The 33-year old striker comes to Los Angeles after helping Real Club Deportivo España claim the 2007 Honduran League Clausura title, scoring 15 goals in 20 appearances while captaining the club. Per league and team regulations, details of the contract were not released.

"I am extremely pleased that the Galaxy had confidence in my abilities, and also proud to be with such great institution," said Pavon. "Now I am just anxious to start working and getting on the field."

Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Pavon has been an integral element of the Honduran National Team for the past 14 years, earning 67 caps and registering a national team record of 47 goals. He most recently led the 'Catrachos' to the Quarterfinals of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, scoring a tournament-best five goals in his country's four games. Pavon scored four goals in Honduras' 5-0 thrashing of Cuba in the final match of Group C play and then scored his team's only goal in the 2-1 loss to Guadeloupe in Houston on Sunday.

Pavon made his professional club debut at the age of 18 with Real España on May 30, 1992, against Platenese. After spending two seasons with Real España where he won a Honduran championship, he moved to Spain, where he spent a year with Real Villadolid in La Liga. Following his time in Spain, Pavon went to Mexico's Primera Division and spent five years with three different clubs; Necaxa (1997-1998), Atletico Celaya (1998-2000) and Monarcas Morelia (2000-2001). After capturing the Primera Division Clausura with Morelia and being named the 2000 Honduran Footballer of the Year, Pavon returned to Europe and spent three years (2001-2003) with Udinese of Italy's Serie A, before joining fellow Italian side Napoli for a short spell in 2003.

Pavon was back in Mexico in 2004, signing with Primera Division power Cruz Azul, before heading to Guatemala to play for Comunicaciones. His career came full circle prior to the 2006-07 season when he re-signed with the club with which he began his career, Real España, and won his second career title with the club, captaining them to the Clausura championship in May.
