L.A. Galaxy waive defender Ian Russell

The Los Angeles Galaxy today waived midfielder Ian Russell. The 30-year old was signed by the Galaxy on April 2, 2007 after sitting out the 2006 MLS season, and appeared three games for the club this season, starting all three. Russell played 193 minutes for LA this season, starting the 0-0 draws against Houston (April 8) and D.C. United (June 2), as well as the 2-1 loss to FC Dallas on April 12.

Russell, a seven-year MLS veteran, appeared in three Reserve Division games and six preseason games for the Galaxy, in addition to his three starts with the first team, despite missing nearly a month of the season with a right calf injury. Before joining the Galaxy, the Seattle native was a member of the San Jose Earthquakes from 2000-2005, winning a pair of MLS Cups with the Bay Area club in 2001 and 2003.

Originally drafted by San Jose in the fifth round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft, Russell has appeared in 134 games during his MLS career, playing 8,574 minutes while scoring five goals and adding 20 assists.
