LA Galaxy Rios Update: May 20, 2008

Under-20 Galaxy Rios forward Tristan Bowen has been named the to the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team for the upcoming Lisbon International Tournament, where the U.S. will take on Norway on May 21, Portugal on May 22 and Sweden on May 24. Under-18 Head Coach Bob Jenkins has named 18 players to the roster that traveled to Lisbon on May 16.


The trip to Portugal will be the first international training camp of 2008 for the U-18s. Eleven of the 18 players on the U.S. squad, including Bowen, participated in the team's most recent domestic camp, which was held in New Jersey last month.


Of the 18 players on the roster, 14 are part of U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs, including three players, Chad Barson (Columbus Crew Academy), Bowen (Galaxy Rios) and Jose Diaz (Chivas USA Academy) from MLS Academy systems.


PERK RETURNS FROM U.S. U-20 DUTY: Galaxy Rios goalkeeper Brian Perk has returned to California after spending a week in England with the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team, where the team played reserve teams from Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United. Perk, who represented the U.S. at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, returned to the U.S. squad for the first time since the tournament last summer in Canada. He recorded a shutout in the first game against Bolton, making three saves, to help lead the U.S. to a 2-0 win. Perk was an unused substitute the next day as the U-20s knocked off Manchester United 2-1.


U-20 GALAXY RIOS TO MAKE HOME DEBUT: The Galaxy Rios Under-20 team will make their home debut on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Poway Vaqueros at The Home Depot Center. The match will kick-off at 1:30 p.m. on Field #7 and is open to all spectators free of charge.


The Galaxy Rios are currently 1-0-0 after defeating Ventura County 5-0 two weeks ago. Tristan Bowen had three goals and an assist in that match, with Kyle Nakazawa and Amani Walker each adding tallies.
