LA Galaxy Defeat Hollywood United 12-4 in Charity Match

The LA Galaxy put on a show on Sunday night, defeating Hollywood United 12-4, with seven different players scoring in a charity match that raised more than $100,000 for the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. The teams played in front of 5,543 fans who cheered along to every goal, knowing that all proceeds raised at the game were donated to the two charities to help aid those who have been effect by the recent Southern California wildfires.

David Beckham scored twice and set up three goals in the second half while Edson Buddle tallied a first half hat trick to help lead LA to the victory at The Home Depot Center.

Beckham opened the scoring in the 8th minute, placing a right-footed strike past Hollywood goalkeeper Anthony LaPaglia. Five minutes later, Buddle scored his first goal of the game, giving the Galaxy a 2-0 lead. He would score another goal before Hollywood United finally got on up on the scoreboard when Frank LaBoeuf found the back of the net with a deflected blast, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Beckham, Buddle (to complete the hat trick) and Cobi Jones each added tallies late in the opening half for LA, while LeBoeuf scored from the penalty spot and Joe-Max Moore scored from long range before the half ended. When the referee blew the halftime whistle, the score was 6-3 in favor of the Galaxy.

The Galaxy started the second half strong with Pete Vagenas, Mike Caso and Chris Klein all scoring inside the first fifteen minutes of the second half, with Beckham assisting on all three goals.

Hollywood United's Peter Gail beat keeper Lance Friesz in the 68th minute to make the score 9-4 but minutes later Mike Caso scored his second goal of the game, giving the Galaxy their 10th goal of the game and a 10-4 advantage. Chris Klein and Kevin Harmse rounded out the scoring late on, giving the Galaxy a 12-4 victory in the first of five postseason friendlies on the club's schedule.
