CARSON, CA - The Los Angeles Galaxy today announced the club's efforts to support National Hunger Awareness Month by participating in a "Dash For The Hungry" on Wednesday, June 7 at the Albertsons in Gardena and by hosting a Galaxy Drive Series - Food Drive before the June 8 match at The Home Depot Center, all to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
"As part of our club's outreach endeavors, we are proud to team up with our fans and Albertsons to support the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and National Hunger Awareness Month," said Galaxy Community Development Manager Gloria King. "We are inviting all of Los Angeles to join in our efforts by making a donation at The Home Depot Center before our game on Thursday."
Galaxy players Todd Dunivant, Herculez Gomez, Ugo Ihemelu and Kevin Hartman will be in attendance to "shop" the aisles for the L.A. Regional Foodbank as well as sign autographs and pose for pictures from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Albertsons Store #6108 at 1735 Artesia Boulevard.
"Albertsons is thrilled to host the Los Angeles Galaxy in our Gardena store as this year's participants of the Dash for the Hungry," noted Lilia Rodriguez, public affairs manager for Albertsons Southern California region. "Helping to eliminate hunger in the communities we serve is one of our top charitable initiatives. This event is a fun way to raise much needed funds for such an important cause."
The Galaxy Drive Series - Food Drive will take place on June 8 prior to the Galaxy vs. Chivas USA Honda SuperClasico match, present by Herbalife International at 7:00 p.m. All Galaxy fans are asked to donate four (4) canned food items or $5.00 to the L.A. Regional Foodbank. All donors will receive a Galaxy Drive Series Voucher for $5.00 off the gate price of a Galaxy ticket for select games, a Galaxy Luggage Tag and be entered into a drawing for a soccer ball signed by members of the 2006 Galaxy.
The mission of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is to mobilize the resources of the community to fight hunger, the causes of hunger and the problems related to hunger. The organization has been serving those who are disadvantaged within the community for 33 years. They are at the heart of a charitable food distribution network that includes over 1,000 charities in Los Angeles County.
